Hi.
I have the problem, that it is not possible to make Portable Winamp 5.35
my default mediaplayer - at least not the way, I usually do this: Rightclick on the mediafile - Open with.. - search for the application (in this case winamp) - set to ...always open with this app. This way I receive the message, that
the file *****.mp3 is no valid win32-application! What?? I guess, it is, because Winamp is not in the registry. Hm - but that's, what it's all about, not?

So-is there a way, to make a portable app make the default app?

you can try out a program called Cafe.

It re-directs double-clicks in Windows Explorer to a program of your choosing.

Maybe you should re-install.

I'm not a winamp user, but I just downloaded WinAmp Portable from Softpedia :

And extracted with Universal Extractor, it doesn't have any of the folders & files that are instructed to be deleted in the database here, so I guess they have cleaned up the portable version some.

I did the right-click Open With and it worked for me.
I don't understand why you would get a message that xxx.MP3 is not a valid application, if you selected the winamp EXE file to open your mp3 file. If anything, it should have said "winamp.exe" is not a valid application.

Or did I mis-understand what you wrote?

If you can't get the app to pick up by right clicking and choosing open with an alternative is...

Open a folder choose tools folder options and the file types tab.
Choose mp3 and select advanced, highlight open then click edit.

find your program, (the actual executable nothing else) I'm not sure what the portable winamp exe is called and open.

Untick the DDE box if you have any problems.
That should work.


I am also confused though, Are you choosing the mp3 to open or the winamp.exe?
XXX.mp3 file is not a win32 application is totally wrong for the situation.
