QClip - Clipboard Extender

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

QClip - Clipboard Extender

#1 Post by Aaron »

Hi all,

This is a little app I'm in the process of developing (should be perfectly usable at this point though). It's a queue-based clipboard extender - every time you copy an item, it gets pushed onto a queue, you can then pop stuff off via hotkeys. It also has a menu interface like nearly every other clipboard app.

Stores all settings in an .ini file and is only 40k. GPL. Natively ANSI, but supports Unicode data on the clipboard (and images, binary data, etc). Should theoretically run on any Windows from 95 on up.

Cute little program that I'll probably use for a while. But two things don't work here: the two date formats don't get entered properly (just little squares or question marks show, depending on the application in which I want to paste), and the file loaded in the Preferences... "Custom Items" cannot be used for pasting at all.

Hrm. You're right. Damn.

Well, off to do some coding then. I'll have 0.9.1 up in a bit hopefully.

New version up, fixes all the stuff you mentioned plus some other things. I did run into some problems that were specific to XP, which I don't have, so that slowed things down a lot :/

Anway, have at it.

Posted to the database. Thanks!

I kinda like this because it doesn't seem to be as resource heavy as the other clipboard extenders I have tried.

Will let it sit in my system tray for a couple of days and see how well it fits in.

Thanks for developing QClip and making it freeware!

It seems to work fine now, Aaron. Found the program to be real useful, quite unexpectedly. :)

Here's a very minor glitch, that you could undo (if you want):

The field for the hotkeys in Preferences.... /Keys/ "Shortcut Key" is probably a bit too small for different localized Windows versions. On a German Windows, for instance, the combination "CTRL+SHIFT+ALT" reads as "STRG+UMSCHALT+ALT", and the letter after that is no more displayed within that field. Probably, in other languages those abbreviations for the standard keys are longer too and the shortcut cannot be seen then either. You might increase that field by a few digits (if you care about other localized Windows versions).

No problem, I'll make it wider in the next release.

Although abandoned long time ago, QClip is a nice piece of software and can still be useful (it works just fine on Windows 8.1).

QClip - http://www.cadae.net/ redirects to http://userpages.umbc.edu/~acurti1/cadae/, so QClip is still available for download.

Anyway, I downloaded all QClip versions and packed them into 7Zip archives, uploaded them and will provide download links for these archives:

http://ge.tt/5W7Ck2E2 - QClip source code
https://mega.co.nz/#!8FsC0a7T!XcqE3Prb8 ... u-MhntITy8 - QClip source code

I wonder why QClip hasn't been included in the database- it is a good program- tiny and truly portable.

I tested QClip v0.9.3.1 (from http://userpages.umbc.edu/~acurti1/cadae/files/, dated 2008-05-30) under Windows 7 x64 SP1 and found it portable. I also found it to be a nifty yet straightforward clipboard utility, lodged in a single 46KB single executable, with configurable keyboard shortcuts (some combinations don't work, though), permanent date and custom items, and a choice of formats...

QClip displays a numbered menu at the mouse pointer location when invoked via the assigned keyboard shortcut (default is "CTRL+ALT+V"; see 3th screenshot below); another menu is shown by right clicking the taskbar icon (quirkily set to a LAV splitter icon on my system)
 • http://userpages.umbc.edu/~acurti1/cadae/qclip-docs.html author wrote:QClip is a clipboard extender for Windows, similar to that found in the Microsoft Office suite, with the exception that it can copy and paste data to and from any other program, arbitrarily. The program monitors the standard Windows clipboard and copies any data it sees there into a queue. You can then access the data later on through hotkeys defined by the program. QClip is designed with a minimalist approach -- it has no UI to speak of, uses few system resources, and does not impact the registry.

@smaragdus: the reason QClip isn't present in TPFC's database is because no one bothered to enter it...

Nah Andrew added it, but the program is stuck in private:

@webfork
Is there a way to search for programs available in private database?

From the homepage:
 1. Click Detailed Search
 2. Click the drop-down menu next to "Results Type:"
 3. Select All Entries (public and private)

Many thanks for your immediate response and for the useful tip, I have overlooked it (in fact I have never used the advanced search).
By the way how many votes does a program need in order to enter the public database?
