Nice app, though it would be nicer if it could save settings also in portable mode. after restart all are back as first time launched

Perhaps it's made portable with ThinApp.
Can you send them an email if it's possible to save the settings?

Nah, this is the official Starburn Portable.
It's great as long as you like your portable applications to save their settings in the registry.

It's kinda funny finding the key "StarBurnSharkPortable" in your reg.
You think someone should contact the author? :lol:

Because it's made portable via ThinApp doesn't necessarily mean it isn't directly from them. ;)

True True.
That it doesn't have a "created with Thinstall/Thinapp" logo upon starting. is made up of several executables and folders and doesn't save it's settings to a thinstall folder pretty much makes me believe it isn't :P

Besides if a developer could get it THAT wrong using Thinapp I'd never touch what they coded themselves.

ON launch only (I did not test it further as I had enough Evidence IMO) creates MANY reg entries I vote not portable
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Rocket Division Software\StarBurn]
"DebugFileName"=-
"DebugFacility"=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Rocket Division Software\StarWave]
"DebugFileName"=-
"DebugFacility"=-
"DebugLevel"=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Rocket Division Software\StarBurnSharkPortable\12.0]
"LUR"=-

I really don't get it: all the necessary settings are saved in the app's folder, but also in the registry and "windows" folder!
Why would anyone do that?

I suppose it's a failsafe, but a little too cautious IMHO.

I can understand that. But the author does not use this software on my machine. I am!

I could really use some trigger in the .ini file like:

EnableRegWrite=0
or
RegistryBackup=0
or
ActivatePortableParanoidMode=1
or
StealthierThanADarkTemplar=1

Bottom of line is this: they don't really care about portability of their software!

Are you sure?

should work perfectly for any software, it's the magic word that microsoft has hidden in all versions of windows from version 3.1 onward to make any and all software portable :lol: :lol: :evil: :twisted:
