What exactly does it do? Manages the desktop doesn't mean much to me. Is there like a video preview or something out on the web for it?

I can see what it does, but I can't find a proper use for it.
Anyway, it's portable (and stealth).

That's exactly why I provided a link to Addictivetips review in the first place but you seem to have missed that.

I do not use this tool but thought others may find it useful. Anyways, vote or don't :|

Let me put it another way: users who come to the site do not currently have a clear idea of what the software does. The home website itself is also sparse on details. I don't have an objection if you want to link to that Addictivetips site inside the portablefreeware entry but I feel its important to give visitors a clear description.

Doesn't seem to work well with relative links. This might be ok for what it does (manage the desktop), but bad in a portable program.

I didn't get much from the addictivetips review so I finally just sat down to download and evaluate the program and totally rewrite the description. Although this program is mentioned as a program launcher, I'm not sure it should be added to the program launcher category for reasons listed in the recommendations below.

Recommendations / feature requests:

  • Needs an option to have BBox manage the files or just link to / organize them. Currently BBox moves the entire file, not a file link, to the BBox program. You have to create a program shortcut, then move THAT shortcut into the BBox program. Should be capable of a setup like a program launcher where you can only drag and drop file links (like Pstart or TrayLauncher), not actual files.
  • Smaller window, customizable look and feel so that icons can be small or very big. Image file should be thumbnails also of a customizable size.
  • Automatic basic categories detection based on application (e.g. Firefox, IE, Photoshop, etc.) and/or categories based on file extension.

Some issues:

  • The URL Capture tool didn't work with Portable Firefox. I didn't try it with other browsers.
  • Help menu just sends you to the website, which has almost no information.
  • The "Datas" folder that it saves everything mysteriously preserves the directory structure of what you drag-and-drop into it. But the only way to move files OUT of that structure is to send it to your Desktop. There should be some kind of "restore" button or just delete that directory structure.

1) It is actually a file link,
Only when the file is on the desktop,
it will move the entire file (To keep the desktop clean),

If you want to keep it on the desktop,
Click "System" - "Options" on the toolbar,
and checked the "Reserve desktop link" option.

2) The URL Capture tool support with Portable Firefox,
(Tested version: 1.6.6.0; Firefox version: 3.6.3),

In the higher firefox versions, to capture title,
you must set the "Address bar name" option to:
Search Bookmarks and History

After testing, the following browsers is supported:
IE, Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera

Unsupported(or partial supported) browser:
Safari

3) Other recommendations, try to contact them directly?

Awesome -- definitely coming along and may be a replacement for programs like PStart in the near future.

  • The pop-up window when you click on an image is outstanding.
  • URL Capture now works in portable firefox. In fact, it will capture any text in any box which is pretty fantastic. Should be Text/URL Capture
  • Option to Minimize the ribbon by right-clicking the top bar is awesome. Skins are keen.

If you're planning to continue work on the program, I have more things I'd love to see in future releases:

  • Program managers should stay out of the user's way when possible. Clicking on the tray icon to open then hitting it again or ESC key should make the window go away.
  • Help button should take user to somewhere other than the website or the website / forum / wiki should have a clear help section.
  • Option to have ALL icons show up in a default mode (list/thumbnail,small icon, etc)
  • Explanation for users of what "Reserve Desktop Link" means. Some kind of bubble mouse-over explanation would be ideal.
  • Duplicate find / remove
  • Multi-level undo capability for notes.
  • Search tool

Thanks a lot for great suggestions.

Yes, we will continue to improve this program.

Good idea. this function will be added in the next version.

Documents will be added soon.

This option will be added in the next version.

This option will soon be replaced.
We will change it:
Just change the shortcut's (or file) hidden attribute,
Without changing the location.

"Move to Desktop" will be replaced too,
A new "restore" function will be added.

webfork wrote:
[*]Search tool

This feature already exists ("Tools"-"Find"), but we will improve it to adding more search options.

A new version will be released this month.

Thanks again.
