There is an article at Ghacks about DriveCleanup.

Apparently, DriveCleanup is a CLI tool -- should it be in the database?

Another update, another question that goes unanswered... http://www.portablefreeware.com/faq.php#six :?:

3rd time might be the charm: let me ask again, should DriveCleanup be in the database, in view of it clearly being against site rules? :?

See https://www.portablefreeware.com/faq.php#six for the reason.

Without any hint of personal animosity, I motion for the database entry to be made private and this topic be moved to "Resource & Links"...

Let it be known Urbi et Orbi : Verily, verily, I say unto thee - 3rd time's the charm indeed, ... Imagemy son.

Motion seconded !

I think this one is an exception to the CLI rule because there's really no "interface" to speak of. You run the program, it does a few things and then self-destructs. It just so happens that the output is displayed in a CLI window. There's no typing in commands, which I believe is the essence of why Andrew set that policy that at the site's inception.

I'm sorry it took so many for me to notice this and reply. I have no idea how this one slipped by me.

Mind you, DriveCleanup can definitely be run on its own, yet there are quite a few optional parameters allowed for this CLI utility :

Code: Select all

Usage:

DriveCleanup [-t] [-n] [-u] [-d] [-c] [-f] [-v] [-r]

no params: cleanup all
-t test mode
-n no wait for keypress when finished if started standalone
-u only USB mass storage devices
-d only USB Disk devices
-c only USB CDROM devices
-f only USB Floppy devices
-v only USB Storage Volume devices
-r only registry items of USB volumes
-w only USB WPD devices

I am OK with it getting voted into the DB, as long as enough people find it useful.

For example, TestDisk is arguably a CLI (or console) app, but is also in the DB.

BTW,

The current "Security - Privacy Tool" category might not be the most appropriate classification for this DriveCleanup utility
dedicated to cleanse USB devices tree and related Registry keys.

Instead, wouldn't "System - Disk Cleaners" or "System - Registry" be possibly more pertinent ?

Having the reasons for DriveCleanup inclusion publicly stated, my pickle here is thoroughly chewed and I'm happy to stand down... :)
