Andrew wasn't saying it is stealth, though it may have seemed that way, but rather that it no longer saves settings to the registry.

Is the new version 3.1 come back to write in registry?

That appears to be the case, Lupo. It now only writes settings to the registry :x . I tried putting the .ini file from Foxit 3.0 in the same directory, but it didn't save anything to it.

What it saves to the registry on first run follows. It seems to be setting itself as the default without asking permisson - there's nothing in the settings about setting it as default, either. Is that correct? I did this under Sandboxie, and I'm hesitant to do it outside Sandboxie to test.

Foxit 3.1 is no longer portable (unless you use a JPE launcher)! See this thread: http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... f=8&t=4054

The 3.0 releases save settings to both the registry and an .ini file, but the 3.1 releases only saves to the registry. Oddly, the changelog mentions the new .ini file for 3.0, but does not mention its demise with the 3.1 release.

The last 3.0 build (3.0.1817) is available from FileHippo here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_foxit/5804/

However, that's only the installer version. The 3.0 zip file can still be downloaded directly using this link: http://mirrors.foxitsoftware.com/pub/fo ... 30_enu.zip

I will update the database to use that as the download link.

If that link becomes unavailable, the license does allow redistribution without any restrictions about only distributing the installer version or requiring a full set of files to be included:
7. REDISTRIBUTION: User can redistribute Foxit Reader under this agreement under the condition that User agrees not to redistribute Foxit Reader on mobile devices or embedded devices including cellular phones, PDA’s, and all other handheld devices.
So maybe TPFC could host the last 3.0 build in a zip file.

By the way, someone else reverted the database entry to 3.0 before I could!

To remove the advertisement in Foxit Reader Portable's menu bar:

In Data > settings > FoxitReaderPortable.reg

Open FoxitReaderPortable.reg with notepad and change the entry "ShowAd"="1" to "ShowAd"="0".

It's not the same thing. Your option made the advertisement reappear after every restart (and required two clicks every time) of the previous FoxitReaders.

That latest FoxitReaderPortable no more has that option under "View". Editing that .reg file makes it disappear for good.
