Hello,

I'm the developer of WebVersions.
In my spare time i do a little programming as a hobby,
DesktopZoom and WebVersions are my biggest programs.

I was thrilled when i found the small tutorial at
this forum and immediately put a link on my website.

DesktopZoom has been the most actively developed of my programs,
google it and you will find plenty of links.

WebVersions has been far less active, but i still use it every
day to keep track of my favorite programs.

Hey thanks for joining! One question I do have is when I conduct a WebUpdate does the User-Agent show as being WebVersions or for example IE. My concern is that some website will see this as a bot and might block me from the respective. I tend to update twice a week.

Yes, websites can see the difference between IE and WebVersions.
WebVersions uses the Windows API 'internetopen' and passes 'WebVersions.exe' as the first parameter (= agent).

But i have been using WebVersions for years and never encountered a site that could be visited with IE and not webversions.

If it happens you would see that the updated version number is empty and the row gets a X, when clicking the program-name IE is started and directed to the site.

I was wondering if you would be willing to share your WebVersions.txt with me.
The version that comes packed with my program is outdated and i intent to update it with my offline version, which i update daily.

I could incorparate your file + http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/k ... ionsConfig

@lga If you are still wondering what you can add to WebVersions I do have a few feature requests (if possible!?)

1. When checking for new versions and the second popup windows is shown, at present you can't edit the changed version entries, would this be easy to implement the edit right click context menu.

and/or

2. When exiting the second popup window to bring the main window back into focus, could a new tab be created with the changed version numbers. At present I have to scroll down looking for the 'x'.

As for new feature requests... two come to mind:
- Drag-and-drop classification (drag an entry to a tab and it becomes a member of that tab)
- Export listings by tab (makes it easier to create shareable lists) -- this could also optionally clear the "my version" column and move the "web version" column into the "known version" column.

More feature requests:
- if press the right button on the grid but out of the list show a message: "Grid index out of range"
- Delete confirm dialog
- Save form size
- "my version" could read the info direct form the app and with a double click open it
- Auto "Web Update" at start
- Auto save on exit

Hi to all,

i happened to detect the program "Webversions" here in PFC and i was very surprised, because some years ago i developed a similar script called WVC=WebVersionCheck based on the build-in-script-language of the software Powerpro (which i can strongly recommend) and some powerpro-plugins. The script is using WGET to download the contents of a webpage in order to find out the "webversion" and compare it with the installed version.

This script is controlled only via an INI-File, containing all necessary information. So you can't compare this script with "Webversions", which is much more comfortable. But there are some features in this script, which i would hope to find in Webversions:
- using regular expressions for finding the webversion
- "automatic" determination of the installed version based on exe-files or registry-entries
(if not possible the installed or used version can be entered manually like in Webversions)
- download new versions, if requested

Best regards Dele
