Mozilla Firefox is by far the best feature-rich and fastest browser out there, but with the passage of time it slows down considerably. It will take a lot of time to load during startup, the overall speed will be effected, and browsing Histories will be too slow. This is very common problem and it occurs largely because of fragmentation of databases.

SpeedyFox is a brand new small utility that fixes this problem with a single click! It seems unbelievable but after you optimize your Firefox with this tool, you will get a fresh newly-installed feel because the speed indeed gets considerably faster. You will get up 3 times faster startup speed, browsing history will become faster, and performing operations with cookies will be quicker than before.

How does it work?

Firefox uses SQLITE databases to store lots of its settings. By the time the databases grow and Firefox starts working slowly. SpeedyFox compacts those databases without loosing any data.

It worked here (so the program said). You have to locate the portable FF profile by clicking on the down arrow in the first field and then -> "Custom..."

I just don't notice ANY improvement. But then, I don't use some of those bloated sqlite databases in FF (like phishing protection and such) that this program seems to "compact".

I noticed that this would not work with Portable Firefox as well.

I emailed the developer and he told me to get the new version.

Dear Sir,
You can manually locate Firefox profile in SpeedyFox 1.1 version.

I checked and I had downloaded a previous version, so I tried again and no joy. (Original download, email, reply, and new download all same day)

I have emailed the developers/support again but so far no reply.

Based on Dot's posted success I must assume it is not working because I do not use profiles.

Dot please post a reply to this question, Are you using Profiles in Firefox?
Further did the computer you were using have a folder in the programs file for Firefox, or anywhere else on the system, I.E. relics of an old installation or a installed copy of Firefox?

I don't have any local FF installed, but got several portable FF versions, and speedyfox worked "successfully" (didn't notice any improvement in speed) with each one of them from version 3 upwards (not with older FF versions though). It also works with the Pigfoot portable FF version that uses a different "profile" location. I only use the standard "profile" too.

Just make speedyfox load the folder called "profile" (from v.3 upwards) in your portable FF. After hitting the "Speed Up My Firefox!" button seedyfox should report, "Optimization is succesfully finished!".

That's how it looks here:

Looks like your SpeedyFox is not compatible with your system for some reason, as that down arrow on the right in the first field (that would allow you to navigate to the "profile" folder) is greyed out. Perhaps some system file that SF would need is missing. The programmer might know.

Correction, guys!

Seems, somehow I have an old FF profile from an installed FF version! I can't remember EVER having installed FF (I only use portable versions). But I did once have the old Mozilla Suite and K-meleon installed. Nevertheless, there is a Firefox profile folder within an old Mozilla folder (that is tucked away on a different partition) that looks as if it is from a regular FF installation. When removing that FF profile folder, SpeedyFox looks like on the picture posted by m^(2): The fields are greyed out, one can no more navigate to a profile folder, and it says, "It seems that Firefox is not installed on your system or has no profiles."

Sorry, for my wrong report. I could have sworn, I never had an installed version of FF.

I contacted the developers again they said version 1.2 fixes the problem with the ability to navigate to a portable edition when no folder exists on the machine.

I tried the program on a friends machine, my friend had firefox installed so it was not a test of whether firefoxportable could be navigated to.

I had to start a new copy of Firefox because I could not successfully log into the forums here.

I had an error with a constant recycle to the log in prompt page.

I believe it may have done something to kill my cookies and prevent new ones.

Has anyone else had this problem????

Well I am going to try the add-ons they seem much more convenient if they work.

edit****************************************************************
It took a full uninstall, followed by a full reinstall to fix the log in problem.
It obviously affected some of the files Firefox leaves alone when installing an new copy over an old copy.

I had that problem two separate times while Andrew was dealing with the DreamHost server problems back in June, and I just had it again when I attempted to compose this reply. I guess I'm lucky: all I had to do was clear my cookies each time - I didn't even have to restart Firefox.

@ ashghost:
I had the same problems with "log-in" at my Opera-browser.
After deleting the cookies it worked fine again
