Many of the listed programs are here on the site but included usually in some other software, not off by themselves as a lone program, which has some appeal. They also all appear to try to be very simple (and hopefully elegant).

FTPEdit meanwhile is pretty unique but I wish it would support SFTP/FTPS.

Thanks for the post.

Few more responses:

- Listshares - is it better/easier/smoother than Softperfect Network Scanner? Will it find FTP shares?

Seemed to be nicely portable but I ran the program but couldn't seem to open any of the shares it listed. I was not on a very populous network so the problem might be on my side.

- Digitzer

Good: I thought this was a dumb idea but some of the converted images were just beautiful; the sample input and output on the home page say it all. I could see a few applications for this, including just a unique/original web page or a cool email sig.

Bad: Wish the files didn't need to be in BMP format, but that's not a big issue. It just means I have to go through the extra step of converting a bunch of images before I see how they turn out in the converted HTML.

- CD2ISO - ultra simple, which has its own appeal. ImgBurn will do the same thing, as well as actually burning ISOs but isn't very simple. Still, I figure if you know what an ISO is, you're probably techy enough to handle the heavier features.

- Password Spy:

I really need a better program than X-Pass and from my tests they appear to be equals. Appears at first blush to be portable from my sandboxie test, but the program had a few minor issues:

* What's the diference between the i386r and i386ur directories? Nothing on the site about that.

User Interface recommendations (in case you've thought about coming back to this program:

* What are the diferent scan levels about? Why not have three boxes that all 3 password attempts and circle one of them in red that's the most likely hit?
* When you drag the mouse away, the password disappears. It should stay up.
* Handle, Window Caption, Window Class, and Mouse position are really more for advanced users. You could create a little tab that would hide all that and have a much more elegant program.

Cal Poly is no longer hosting Brian's "Freezerware" tools for Windows, so, with his permission, I put a temporary copy of his tool collection on my server, here: http://www.burtonsys.com/freezerware_backup/software/

Apps not included in OP:

• HiveDefrag version 1.1
HiveDefrag is a powerful utility that defragments your registry which increases system performance.
http://www.burtonsys.com/freezerware_ba ... frag.shtml

Image

64-bit version available.

• ZoneRemove
ZoneRemove scans your hard drive for files that are flagged as having been downloaded from the Internet. You can select one or more of these files and clear this flag. You know if you download a program from the Internet, when you run that program it says something like "this program was downloaded and may not be safe, would you like to continue?" Removing the zone info prevents these annoying warnings.
