Portable Skype (AKA sPortable)

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

I've been using the method outlined by mohsin for several months now.

@Amadeus, mohsin has already given indications on how to make Skype portable: http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... 890#p31890

Alternatively you can use winPenPack's X-Launcher to pass parameters. Download it from http://www.winpenpack.com/en/download.php?view.15 , open X-Launcher.ini with a text editor , delete all content and add this code http://www.winpenpack.com/en/e107_plugi ... ?3784.post

Version 2 was released more than a year ago, and -- given the number of changes to Skype since then -- likely doesn't work.

Maybe this topic should be merged with this one.

It's great looking at old posts, especially this quote. Seems U3 never did and the project was phased out late 2009. Hope it wasn't something I said?

Heheh ... I'm a little surprised U3 didn't stick around in some capacity. They've got to value-add on those flash drives somehow. I guess it all went the direction of speed or encryption.

If you are about to log in with your Microsoft account you have to take care of this directory (namely copy this directory there before launching):

Code: Select all

%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Skype\Apps\login
Otherwise Skype will allow log in with your Skype username and password, so you won't see your Messenger pals.

Took some time to figure it out when updating my yaP launcher. I was first about to steal info from the PortableApps launcher source code but guess what, it is not available.

There is a file named "PortableApps.comInstallerCustom.nsh" under "SkypePortable\Other\Source" (if you "install" the PortableApps Skype app). Is this the launcher's source code you're seeking?

Yes I saw that but that's only the online installer's source. Anyway, I have managed to solve without it but thanks.

Can anyone verify this? Is Skype no longer stealth?

Indeed, it's not. I regshotted it and submitted a bug report to PortableApps.com: http://portableapps.com/node/37792

There may be even more traces because I have already ran Skype Portable on my computer.

I updated the entry to version 6.7.59.102 and set Stealth: to No.

Note that toitoy may have actually complained about the fact that Skype uses Trident and leaves files in Internet Explorer's cache. IE cache is considered an official area for temporary files, so leaving files there doesn't make Skype Portable non-stealth.
