JavaRa - clean out old Java versions [discontinued]

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

JavaRa - clean out old Java versions [discontinued]

#1 Post by SeanJohnShaffer »

JavaRa is a simple tool that does a simple job: it removes old and redundant versions of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). You can also use it to search for and download the latest version of JRE if you do not already have it. Very useful for getting rid of the many previous versions of the program so that Windows may run a bit faster.

The author's homepage can provide more information. Unfortunately, there is not download link available on their site (least not that I saw). Here is a link to the author's site:

Website:

Code: Select all

I hate submissions that only link to a 3rd party download (even if it is Softpedia). Do you really think we got all the information we want/need from your 2-line post?

Post edited to include a little more information. There isn't much else I can say about the program and what it does, as it is very small and has a simple purpose. Only other information I can provide that I haven't already is the size of the program, authors' name and several mirrors for downloading the program. I find that it is unnecessary to list those, as the link to the author's site that I have now provided can give you all of the information.

It would be appreciated if your request for a more informative post would be a little bit nicer. I do not appreciate it when people are negative. A simple "Please provide more information" would have worked just as well. No need to be rude about it.

I apologize for my just-woke-up-with-a-headache grumpiness about my silly pet peeve. I should have just posted the website URL and left it at that. :)

There's a php download link on their "Products" page that points to:

Code: Select all

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/javara/JavaRa.zip
I wasn't really complaining about the shortness of the post, just the lack of a link. I almost never download anything I'm unfamiliar with without checking out the author's website, even if I'm browsing Download.com or Softpedia. It's extra silly of me to care, since Google gets me to the website almost as quickly and easily as with a link.

Yes it does but so does PureRa, another program made by the same author, and it is in the Portable Freeware list :)

Check it out here.

That's my concern too.
Since taking over development of the app, we decided that it needed to be more user friendly and not out of place on the average family PC. Taking cues from Microsoft’s Metro Design Language, and inspiration from the guys at MetroTwit we present a prototype of the JavaRa GUI:

Development is still in relatively early stages, so don’t expect to see this released for quite some time. I want to make sure it is completely stable before it goes public.

I think thats confirmed it for me! I know if I was to take JavaRa I would convert it to AutoIt so I don't see why they wouldn't convert to their language of choice. I see V1.16 is available using the old C++ code!

It also appears that 'thewebatom' have changed their name too. Maybe someone who knows C++ better than I do will take over the JavaRa project.

Have you tested whether it is portable?

No, I did not bother to test this beta version.

05 May - We’ve updated the JavaRa definitions to support the new versions of the Oracle Java Runtime Environment. JavaRa 1.16 users must re-download the program to get the latest definition file
