Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.
Userfriendly wrote:Those .btapp files are just .zip files containing some css, html, images, javascript probably related to utorrent plus. Doesn't really do anything and are probably remnants of the App feature which they removed. The dlimagecache is also part of the apps thing.
If you're paranoid about privacy or something you could go to advanced options and put the filter "btapp" and change these settings to false:
btapps.app_store = blank
btapps.app_channel = blank
btapps.auto_update_btapps = false
btapps.auto_update_btinstalls = false
btapps.enable_activex = false
You can also open up the .btapp files and inside will be a btapp file with no extension which contains some settings. You can blank out those update_urls if you're super paranoid.
Again these settings are probably just leftovers from the Apps feature and probably don't really do anything.
Just overwrite the executable and when it asks if you want to downgrade click 'yes'.
Also notice there's an 'updates' folder containing backups of each utorrent executable you updated from letting you revert to them whenever you want. Should be in the same directory as your exe/dat settings files if in portable mode or in your User\AppData folder.

i did exactly it
but it start the installer , i tried to run inside sandboxie
and copy only the exe(the program)
but starts again the installation
Executable and settings.dat need to be in the same directory or else it will run the installer. If that doesn't work then I don't know what to tell ya. I never had that problem upgrading/downgrading. 100% sure its a problem with your setup.
"Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the universe trying to build bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning." - Rick Cook.
Only affects people who 'install' utorrent. Honestly i've been using the same settings.dat in portable mode for a decade and just overwriting the executable to update. All the tweaks I have done have carried over since. Hardly noticed any ads or annoyances so meh. MPAA? I'm not that paranoid.
I mean I've tried all the alternatives but they all seem to be missing the mark one way or another. I just want a pure C++ tiny portable feature rich fast single executable client that may or may not be named utorrent but without the bad stuff. Halite has the potential but its lacking in features.
Seriously, someone out there please just copy utorrent minus the crap. Doesn't have to be free. Sell it for $1. But it has to be awesome. Millions buy dumb mobile apps for that much. But if you make something useful for a dollar... millions of people... think about it.
Opencandy is what the installer uses to fetch adware stuff. But that's only if you run the installer where it's a problem. They've previously used something called 'bunndle' in older versions like 3.3.x. I have archived every beta/release builds and when I check with 7zip, some of them don't even have opencandy at all. If you block Opencandy/utorrent servers in the hosts file you won't even see ad offers in the installer and that OfferProvider reg key would be blank.
Edit: Actually if I UPX unpacked some of them I can browse through the installer scripts which you may also see in the temp files while running the installer. Opencandy is present in just a different way. Browsing through the scripts, there seems to be stuff from yandex.ru and ask.com for MediaCaster. Also finally info.screenglaze.com which seems to be the Epic Scale one.
I'll list some the shady urls I found in the installer scripts if you wanted to block them. Also included some related domains.
Bolded in red are the ones I actually found in the scripts.
