TinyTask - basic macro recorder

I could not find this in the database or the forums. It is tiny and claims full portability.
TinyTask provides basic automation (recording and playback). It is a case study in minimalist programming: the entire program is only 24k -- and 12k of that are icons, which means the executable portion is just a few K in size. It was used as the test harness for the "Hardware" recording method used in Tasker. The recording files (*.rec) that it creates are fully compatible with Tasker.

There's no installer, help file, or anything unnecessary; just a tiny EXE program, which doesn't touch your registry or change your system folders

Scroll down to the bottom of the page ( https://www.tinytask.net ):
"UPDATE 2020-Feb-05: Currently attempting to get TinyTask back online, and bypass Google's idiotic "trojan keylogger" designation"

TinyTask 1.77 is available at:

Thanks. It wasn't there when I checked. Instead, there was something about providing download link for v 1.80 for businesses.

It doesn't seem possible to continue anymore with these barriers. Google is fucking evil. Enjoy the results of unrestricted monopolies, everyone. TinyTask will switch to being developed as a private, internal productivity app.

Thanks to those who supported TinyTask. It's possible it could return someday if Google is finally killed.

From the website, maybe my favorite reason to not use Google:
5) there is nobody to call at google for resolution.
First, I will say there are plenty of ways around this that don't require that you terminate your project. I encourage the developers to reach out to me and I will try contacting them as well. You're not the first person this has happened to.

Second, an ongoing reminder that -- even though Google makes money off your usage of their services -- you are not their customer. I've run into this numerous times, including with projects getting the axe, and an important gmail address that mysteriously disappeared.

It's also a great example of how Silicon Valley companies think automation, machine learning, and artificial intelligence will let them rule the world. While might dislike the red tape of bureaucracies, the wall of utter silence is far worse.

Another simple keyboard and mouse mimic program like TinyTask is available, but this one is open source and cross platform:

atbswp (Automate the boring stuff with Python)
Home: https://github.com/RMPR/atbswp
Recommendation and article: https://www.linuxuprising.com/2020/03/h ... e-and.html

NOTE: this is a source-only distribution. EDIT: vevy pointed out correctly that there's binaries available.

Status: Untested

/Rant

Not to mention the prevailing techbro mindset that always assumes to know better what's good for the user.

Big tech has now fallen for this, one company after the other, and consequently computing environments have become so adversarial nowadays that decades old tinkerers like myself are considering the prospect of just letting go and not be bothered with any of it anymore.

Maybe the redesign threw you off. I know it did me at first.

So a few questions came up on this:

1. What's the difference between tinytaski.com and tinytask.net ?

I don't know why there are two different sites but I downloaded both software programs. They're both coming up as the exact same file.

2. Are they both safe? Weirdly both of them have pretty bad ratings on the Virustotal site 14/72:
https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/75e ... c7893ffe12

But yes, they do look safe. evidently this is a known issue on PA's site: https://github.com/PortableApps/Downloa ... g/download
