Resizor - image size increase and decrease (seam carving)

#1 Post by Ennovy »

Resizor is a free software for high-quality image resizing and retargeting.

Want to make a big picture smaller? Or a small picture bigger? That's what Resizor is made for.

It also features a recently published image retargeting technique called seam carving. This allows you to change the size of the image without changing the content by removing areas of low importance.

But Resizor also offers conventional resizing via resampling using a variety of filters, some of them offering quality even superior to industry standard Adobe® Photoshop®.

There is no need to install it, you can just run it right away by double clicking the program file. You can always move it into you program files folder, though, and then add a shortcut to your start menu and/or desktop. Depending on the demand I might also offer an installer for download in the future.
Have a nice day

This is awesome. I've been waiting for an application doing that ever since I saw that algorithm demo'ed last year.

Old thread update:

This is long gone and Archive.org has the website but not the file: https://web.archive.org/web/20090416062 ... index.html

Anyone have the old zip file?

@webfork

If this is the same program (Resizor 1.1.0 Build R1):

I found this link (the download works):
https://resizor.en.uptodown.com/windows

The program seems to save no settings. In spite of the name of the program, the program window cannot be resized.

No unfortunately these are different programs. Check out the youtube link above -- it's pretty fantastic.

Oh sweet ... does it work in batch? Maybe we should give it a separate thread.

Why you think so? Same developer - Peter Werner, exactly same date of release - 19.12.2007, if you click on "Donate" icon in "About" dialog it will try to redirect you to now disappeared homepage.
It's the same program

I do. From the first post in thread:
It also features a recently published image retargeting technique called seam carving. This allows you to change the size of the image without changing the content by removing areas of low importance.
The Resizor program notes just resizes images and doesn't do seam carving. Here's a look at the (sadly cropped) application from the Youtube video:

For a closer alternative to the original (and now defunct) Resizor image Seam Carving utility,
you might want to take a look at SeamCarvingGUI .

There are a bunch of builds for different platforms available here:
https://code.google.com/archive/p/seam- ... /downloads

SCG Win-32 version 1.10 dated 9-NOV-2008 (included in a zip package) appears to be portable.

SCG Win-32 latest version 1.11 dated 24-SEP-2009 is packed with Inno Setup installer.

This later version could be either fully installed, or its components unpacked manually with the innounp tool.
innounp -v
will list the package contents
innounp -e
will extract the components

Note this 1.11 version requires MS Visual C++ 2008 Runtime

Awesome, thanks __philippe and Baas. I know there might be better things to do than maintain these very old threads, but I had real difficulty finding details on this program anywhere in my research. I hate the idea of these programs and the hard work by their original authors just disappearing.

Resizor 1.1 vs SeamCarvingGUI

#13 Post by __philippe »

SeamCarvingGui brief hands-on usage notes :

SCG v1.10 works fine under both WinXP and Win7 alike.

SCG v1.11 (extracted manually via innounp -x to retain the required directory path structure)
under Win7
works fine
under WinXP
FAILS (picture work frame blacks-out when attempting to delimit an area for removal)

Verdict: a superb addition to any picture-editing toolbox... 8)

Perhaps a candidate for inclusion in the DB ?

Or perchance in something a trifle less elevated ?
