PFrank - file rename

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

PFrank - file rename

#1 Post by JohnW »

PFrank is an acronym for Peter's Flexible RenAmiNg Kit. v 2.12
It is a Renamer with a very flexible capability.
The author believes it can cope with any reasonable request. And most unreasonable ones !!

The author has gone a long way to ensure that the application is portable.
Although files can be extracted via Un Extractor I recommend that Setup be used. The aviodance of Registry additions and a Portable structure is all built into the procedure.

Available from ...

Code: Select all

http://www3.telus.net/pfrank/
Two versions are provided - Vista and non-Vista.

Now at V 2.28.

I'm surprised that there has been no interest in this app.

What app has more features?

I like this very much and use it every chance I get!

Quote from the help file (just to consolidate JohnW's statement):

"Portability

The location of the Config file, PFrank.log file and other utility files generated by PFrank can be controlled by editing a file called ConfigLocation. The ConfigLocation file is found in the PFrank install folder. This file contains the path (relative or absolute) of the folder in which the utility files are to be stored.
e.g. if the ConfigLocation file stores a '.', then the Config file for example, will be stored in ./Config relative to the install folder (i.e. in the install folder). In this case, if the install folder is located on a portable device like a flash drive, then the utility files will always be created in that folder. You can then move PFrank around in the flash drive and the utility files will stay with the drive.
If you use the installer to install PFrank to run as a portable program, the installer just arranges for the ConfigLocation file to have a '.' in it. "

I get no registry or files junk after running the app configured this way!

But PFrank is only a renamer, one powerfull enough for me, and is free ...
You are right, TC is the mother of all file managers but I, for one, don't need all its advanced features ...

Because it's a specialist, it should be better than more generic tools IMO.

But still it might be good, I don't deny it. Probably the most powerful free one I know, though I never searched for such thing. TC is enough. ;)

This definitely looks powerful but it seems to take a lot of getting used to.
I took one look and almost cried. :(

For all the writing and examples of what it can do though it seems to do no more than BRU and with less ease.

Would there be a point to start using this instead?
From the authors write up it seems I'm missing something.

Old thread update: it looks like the last update to this was back in 2012 at version 2.33. Although dormant, there's still a huge number of functionality and options.
