XYplorerFree - file manager

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

  • Not really, I meant the INI(s) inside the portable profile folder where program options are kept... :(

If you don't mind, could you tell me what you tried to edit in the file? Either way, it's odd that it did what it did to you. Have you checked to make sure that XYplorer.ini is not "Read Only" for whatever reasons?

EDIT: According to Don, the author, you might have XYplorer.exe and the Data folder in some UAC protected folders. Where are the Data files and main executable located?

@Enternal: firstly, I'm on XP here, so no UAC. 8)

I tested with the XYplorerFree portabilized version (as per joby_toss instructions) on the desktop and then in my portables folder (D:\PROGS) -- I tried to change the title bar contents via the INI directive, among other things. After some tweaking, didn't get anywhere, so I gave up and deleted everything.

Been there quite often and though it is an instant relief not always the best solution :)

That is definitely weird. If you don't mind, could you just try again? Just download:
http://xyplorer.com/download/xyplorer_f ... nstall.zip

There is no need to "portabalize" anything since it's already portable. Startup.ini is not needed and the instruction by joby_toss is redundent because XYplorer by nature is portable. By using Startup.ini, you can then tell it where to save the settings but without it, it will save it to wherever the executable is located. Startup XYplorer and save the settings using the Menu > Save Settings. NOW try to play with the XYplorer.ini that should be in the Data folder.

EDIT: OH! I realized what's going on. You said you tried changing the title bars right? That's actually not supported in the Free version. What else did you try to change?

Also, if you need any help, just ask Don directly on:
http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/index.php
And he almost always answer questions everyday unless he's on vacation.

Any way to make this one show archives content (browsing zip, rar, 7z, cab, lzh, tar)?

Unfortunately no, sort of. Well, you can sort of display zip (and only zip) but it's not integrated in the way you might hope. Right click the zip file > Zip > Zip View and a window will pop up with the content of the zip file with some metadata.

Oh I'm sorry. I actually meant:
That's actually not supported in the Free version
I always for some reason mistype those words. Anyway I'm sure you understood what I meant haha. I edited my post just to make sure people won't get confused.
