There are heaps of capable portable checksum generators and I use several of them daily. Some time ago I discovered another one- SHAsher. The first version of SHAsher I tested (1.0.2.0) was rather basic (for example it saved no settings), so I contacted the developer- Joey Hazlett (who has also created the bookmark manager StorURL) requesting several enhancement and about a week later (on 2018-05-29) a new version (1.0.3.0) with all my suggestions implemented was released. As I promised I am introducing this tiny and simple hash calculator- SHAsher, to the community.

Portability
SHAsher is is portable by design- until 1.0.2.0 no setting were saved, from version 1.0.3.0 are saved to XML file (settings.xml) inside program folder. However I spotted 2 keys in Windows registry:
Code: Select all
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Tracing\SHAsher_RASAPI32
Code: Select all
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Tracing\SHAsher_RASMANCS
Instructions
- Donwload the archive (SHAsher.zip);
- Extract the archive to a folder of your choice;
- Run the executable (SHAsher.zip);
I cannot confirm it but I suppose that SHAsher should also work under Windows XP and Windows Vista.SHAsher requires the Microsoft .NET 2.0 Framework
Tested Operating Systems: Windows 7, Windows 10

SHAsher is tiny (as of version 1.0.3.0)- 63 KB archive, 121 KB executable.
SHAsher is light- it uses about 33 MB of RAM.
The developer- Joey Hazlett, has always been very helpful and open to suggestions.
I forgot to request "Stay on Top" feature, I may suggest it in the future.
SHAsher (as of version 1.0.3.0) can only calculate hashes, it cannot verify hashes.
Alternatives
A couple of programs with similar functionality:
- CRCDropper
- fHash
