The installation file is huge (535 megs) but this Java-based program includes it's own JRE, similar to search program DocFetcher. It might be worth the footprint: This program is crazy easy to pick up. I did this in less than 15 mins of use:

I haven't seen another program where you could work on a 3D program on a Mac at work and take it home and continue on a PC without any extra effort. Note that I only tested the Windows 32-bit version but I was able to test on Mac as well and it worked fine.
Version tested: 4.6
Status: Portable, writes to the local \data folder
Stealth: No, writes last directory info to HKU\..\Software\Javasoft

SweetHome3D - 3d interior design software
Homepage: http://www.sweethome3d.com/
Portable version: download page (224 Mb).
(SweetHome3D-X.x-portable.7z)
I've messed around with this program in the past and it's really good. It's been around for quite a while now and is constantly getting updated. Large community, downloadable models/textures, and many example models/tutorials. It can run on Win 98 through to 10, and is also cross-platform (even runs on Solaris). Unfortunately this is a double-edged sword, as it's written in Java ... so not stealth.
For interest sake, check out the Sourceforge page. As of the time of posting, it has a total of 162,814 downloads for this week alone.
Tested: Portable
Main settings: %sweethome3d%\data\preferences.xml
Writes other stuff to registry, AppData and a folder called .oracle_jre_usage within User directory.
For interest sake, there is an online version here, but you need Java installed and to save models to your computer you need to register on the site ...

Sweet Home 3D is a free interior design application that helps you draw the plan of your house, arrange furniture on it and visit the results in 3D.

My mistake ... didn't search properly. Delete this topic.

Agreed -- these duplicates almost always fill in blanks that the original post didn't cover. Topics merged.Midas wrote:Don't delete, please, just merge...
Re: SweetHome3D - 3d interior design software
This program has been in ongoing development since discussions a few years ago, with a new version came out back in Aug. Changelog: http://www.sweethome3d.com/history.jsp
Have added to my list of programs to add to the database.
Download:

Status: Portable (with caveats about stealth mentioned above still very much in place)
