MSI Unpacker

#1 Post by smaragdus »

MSI Unpacker is an abandoned tool (as far as I know) but since I use it very often and since it works well (at least on Windows 8) I suppose someone might be interested to try it.

Synopsis
MSI Unpacker, as the name suggests, does one thing- it unpacks MSI (Windows Installer) files but it does it well- I can't remember a single MSI file it failed to extract.

Downloads
I have 3 versions of MSI Unpacker- 1.3.0, 1.4.1, 1.5.0, I packed the ZIP archives into a 7Z archives and uploaded it, below there are several download links:

License
MSI Unpacker versions 1.3.0 and 1.5.0 are freeware while MSI Unpacker version 1.4.1 says that it is licensed under GNU General Public License but I don't know whether the source code has ever been published.

Portability
MSI Unpacker (versions 1.3.0 and 1.4.1) is portable and stealth- it saves no settings- just extract the archive and run MSI_Unpacker.exe. MSI Unpacker version 1.5.0 comes in MSI installer- extract the installer and run MSI_Unpacker.exe.

Note
I recommend MSI Unpacker version 1.4.1, it works better than the latest one (1.5.0).
MSI Unpacker does not support drag&drop.
How to use MSI Unpacker- run MSI_Unpacker.exe, click Browse button to select a MSI file, click Save Location button and click Unpack button.
For convenience I always place the MSI files I want to extract on my desktop.
All I know about the developer of MSI Unpacker (from Readme.txt) is his name (Danilo Gergar) and his e-mail address. MSI Unpacker version 1.5.0 says:
