Donation Coder's LaunchBar Commander

#1 Post by dilentec »

I've been using this and liked it. Kind of hard to configure but seems natively portable and handles relative paths more or less nicely.

¿What Do You Think?

Tested this out today ... few notes on this:

From the developer behind the very feature-rich Screenshot Captor

Looks like some really cool functionality and neat goodies here. I'd like to see some of the other program launchers integrate these options.
  • Primary negative is that it doesn't support drag and drop. I sped things up a little bit by using CTRL+R in CubicExplorer and pasted them in, but there's no quick and easy way to point to a single, often used program.
  • Has a sound feature I couldn't figure out how to turn off.
  • Really liked the docking but wish there was a way to make it minimize like the regular dock.
Some of the menus in the config had text that was cut off. Happy to post a screen of that if anyone's curious.

FYI, I tested LaunchBar Commander a while ago: does show promise -- first of all, by being actively developed -- but not yet ready to replace the aging but still favorite Fast Launcher (viewtopic.php?t=16304)...

LaunchBar Commander at version 1.149.01, latest changes:
v1.149.01 - Dec 22, 2016
  • [BugFix] LBC was sometimes not autoadjusting its dock position when a multi-monitor secondary screen resolution changed, leaving the dock off screen.
  • [BugFix] When dropping shortcuts to create new command nodes, LBC would sometimes set the "run hidden" checkbox resulting in a launch button that seemed to have no effect.
  • [MinorImprovement] Icons added to pop-up right-click menu in config tree.
  • [MinorFeature] New launch item added to pop-up right-click menu in config tree.
  • [BugFix] Right-click shell context menus would not work on command nodes that uses environment paths.
  • [BugFix] Fixed rare crash that could occur when installing new version and existing version was already running.
  • [BugFix] Right-click context menus were sometimes disappearing - thanks abc163!
  • [BugFix] LBC was sometimes staying topmost even when a full screen app was running, contrary to options set.

FYI, LaunchBar Commander online help contains a rather extensive list of other toolbar launchers (with some dead links):

www.donationcoder.com /Software/Mouser/LaunchBarCommander/help/related_programs.htm

BTW, the LBC essentials missing from the topic.

LaunchBar Commander is what is commonly referred to as an "Application Launcher"; it is typically docked to the side of your screen and lets you configure buttons and menus which will launch your favorites programs. LaunchBar Commander has a slightly different focus than some other launch bar tools...

The great thing about Launchbar Commander is you can minimize the bar to the tray, assign a hot key and it works exactly the same as aSuite, Quick Access Popup etc.

Terrific free software.
