Radiola (Internet Radio Client)
Radiola (Internet Radio Client)
Radiola is yet another netradio client based upon the Bass libraries; it's freeware and fully multi-platform (Windows, Linux, and MacOS), and claims native portability (stealth status untested!), has recording capability and shows buffer state level. It has a minute memory footprint, but the interface is mostly keyboard controlled and shows no configuration options (see the ReadMe file for more info).
Re: Radiola (Internet Radio Client)
Some interesting things with this program. I'm comparing it to streamWriter.
Good:
* Exceedingly low processor usage in my tests (I didn't see it go above 0% even with the visuals). Took up about 11 megs of RAM.
* Cross-platform.
* Neat basic visualizations and like that the author included Geiss (press ctrl+v).
Bad:
* I'm annoyed they're using BASS libraries but didn't keep it open source (edit: BASS isn't open)
Wishlist:
* Config window to modify Geiss settings (I couldn't figure this out)
* Ability to turn off visualizations, as well as change colors, etc.
* More default radio stations
* Skins

The Bass audio library is not open source. See http://www.un4seen.com/bass.html#license.webfork wrote: * I'm annoyed they're using BASS libraries but didn't keep it open source
Re: Radiola (Internet Radio Client)
main problem with these radio apps is always how many presets do they include because Tapin and RadioSure have 20,000+ last i checked so i don't have to spend time to add my favorites. wish there could be a main repository for a stations database and anyone who write a program could use it because who has time to maintain redundant databse that large? the GUI is unique and looks pretty cool imo.
Re: Radiola (Internet Radio Client)
You mean where users could store their favorites and let applications connect to it?wish there could be a main repository for a stations
Seems like a great idea, question is that isn't there already one?
Re: Radiola (Internet Radio Client)
As I noted over at the OooPlayer topic, RadioFaves (http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/ ... hp?t=21917) is a favorites manager of the sort, but sadly it only works with XMPlay (http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=567)...

Not Stealth creates a couple of registry keys
and stores playlist and history files in users appdata folder;
and adds a "qtsingleapp-radiol-97d3-0-lockfile" in the temp folder
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\FBytes.com]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\FBytes.com\Radiola]
"UID"="MSOEWEAFRTPVAJFIDGDC"
"WinHeight"=dword:000001a4
"WinWidth"=dword:0000023f
from the english readme.txt:
All theese files are stored in default LocalAppData folder like "c:\users\NAME\AppData\Radiola".

Re: Radiola (Internet Radio Client)
well i was meaning that there should be a single giant database that all the stations added to themselves (and they included all relevant info about themselves that they wanted - like city, state/province, mailing address, website, stream url/s, etc) and then anyone who writes a program like this or Pocket Radio Player or VLC or oooplayer or WMP or any of the other media players can just tap into (some kind of open source standard so anyone could use it in any program) and not have to bother with maintaining themselves because its time consuming and some like TuneIn have 50,000+ stations. i think Pocket Radio Player has 2000 stations and the work has already been done by others before. He could have spent that time coding instead.tproli wrote:You mean where users could store their favorites and let applications connect to it?wish there could be a main repository for a stations

- I believe that's just what Shoutcast (http://www.shoutcast.com/), the IceCast Directory (http://dir.xiph.org/), or Windows Media (http://www.windowsmedia.com/radioui/home.aspx) tried to be, with limited success on account of audio format balkanization...
BTW, a page with links to many webradio directories can be found at http://radiowindows.com/.
@Napiophelius: thanks for testing.
Re: Radiola (Internet Radio Client)
What I thought about is a personal database of favorite stations. One could login in a browser and manage his favorites.
Developers then could implement a feature to get the user's favorite channels (if the user adds his username/password).
Just like a bookmark manager in browsers.
