On the website http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/toucan
you can find more information about toucan and download your copy.
Toucan is a small utility allowing you to synchronise, backup and secure your data with more options than the built in suite utilities. It is split up into 5 tabs, allowing you to easily find the function that you want. This version features:

Four synchronisation modes, copy, update, mirror and equalise.
Backup and restore in industry standard zip and 7-zip files
Encryption using the BURP updated blowfish algorithm
Command line support, allows you to create a batch file for repeated jobs
Portable variables, point to places on you USB drive no matter what its drive letter is

Now at version 1.2

Old thread update: Just went back and updated the Toucan entry and realized it has some pretty amazing functions. However, I had some difficulty getting an idea of what the different sync methods do (copy, mirror, and move I get but equalize and clean?). The help file points to the website and there's not much detail there.

A clear breakdown on the difference between an update and differential backup would also be good.

I have a faint remembrance of Toucan requiring DotNET -- there's no mention of it in the database entry (http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=984), so I'm probably confused...

Do you happen to know where the native version saves files and/or settings?

Toucan version 3.1.5 (Toucan_3.1.5.paf.exe) downloaded from SourceForge is different than the same file downloaded from GitHub, why?

The official release linked on PortableApps.com is on SourceForge. The Toucan.exe launcher is rebuilt with the latest PA.c Launcher and digitally signed then packaged in a PA.c Installer and digitally signed. The release on Github is using an older toucan.exe launcher and is not digitally signed. It's likely in the future that we'll be digitally signing first and then pushing to both Github and SourceForge, but this was the first official release of Toucan with a new developer building it and we didn't want to up the version number just to do the digital signing.

Releases are only "official" when announced on the PortableApps.com site and linked to via the app directory. Anything else is considered an unofficial package. If you download from the PortableApps.com site or from the PortableApps.com Platform you'll always get the correct version.

First- thanks for the detailed explanation.
Second- I am glad you found a developer for Toucan (I supposed it might be abandoned).
Third- in my opinion the change log file should be accessible from the main page, now it is buried quite deep.

That's a lot of junk -- I'll check it out.

EDIT: I am seeing a folder created in C:\ProgramData\boost_interprocess\1595395361 but nowhere else. It's evidently caused by a C++ library.

Yep, all other places have to be System's hard/soft links.
