Very nice and fast. It's like the 'Everything' versions of WinDirStat. Same method of scanning and same limitations. Scan results might have missing files but its still handy to see file sizes quickly.

WizTree V1.04 available (4 Dec 2012):
* Memory usage decreased by about 40%
* Folder sizes now updated in real time as files are deleted
* Can now cancel scan in progress
* File deletion detection improved
* Processing speed increased for very large MFT files
* Improved error handling

On the entry:
WizTree only works on local NTFS format drives.

Great program -- very impressed. Even under heavy load it was able to open a local 10 gig drive in ~10 seconds. Think I may have found my new disk space analyzer.

It's explained in WizTree's homepage:
WizTree reads the hard drive's Master File Table (MFT) directly from the disk. The MFT is a special hidden file used by the NTFS file system to keep track of all files and folders on a hard drive. Scanning for files this way completely bypasses the operating system (Windows) and provides a huge performance boost.
MFT contains the size of each file. WizTree merely needs to read the paths and file sizes from the MFT. In addition, I believe MFT is cached in RAM: if that's the case, WizTree doesn't actually need to access the disk at all.

In my amazed state I posted in haste (without actually looking into why). Thanks for pointing that out to me......... Makes complete sense now.

I've just released an update (1.07) that fixes a problem that was occurring on some PCs when extracting file sizes. The new version is available here:
