Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

Re: Dead entries

#16 Post by webfork »

I'll create a separate post for this question, as I think this is bordering on a thread hijack:

That might be a good thing to have available for logged-in users. I'd recommend posting something to the Suggestions forum on that with some details around what you think it should look like, how it would be helpful to users. If I think of something, I'll add some ideas.

And after some time there will be no more dead entries on TPFC.
As Joby noted, sometimes it's good to have the old entry for reference. The dead entries aren't exactly hurting the site so I don't think it's crucial we overwrite them, though that has been done in the past.

Plus, it's kind of nice to have an entry number to give me some idea of how long a program has been on the site. For example, you can see https://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=2 was the 2nd program added to the site.
billon wrote:Andrew Lee, webfork, is it possible?
It's possible but there's a bit of a story behind this: I can't find the thread that discusses it, but a while back we took down a whole lot of programs that were submitted to the database that had the requisite vote from Andrew but no one else really promoted. We have probably 50+ programs like this.

Since it's entirely possible one of these programs could be "rediscovered" or come back to life by the developer picking them up again, I'm fine with leaving a lot of dead entries in the database. As is the case with FreeFileSync, it might get forked (I sort of hope it does) and get a new life outside of the current dev.

Maybe someone could make a Youtube video regarding it.
