Unicodia

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

Unicodia

Unicodia - Encyclopedia of Unicode characters
Image

What is Unicodia?

This is a replacement for Windows Character Map.
In Windows 10/11 — all characters of Unicode 15 (no named sequences right now).
In Windows 7 — all characters of Base Multilingual Plane, plus Phoenician, Aramaic and Brahmi, as scripts of high importance. I’ll also support Old Gothic, just because it looks really “gothic”.
Shows if the character is supported in your system, and if so — which font.
Copy character codes in HTML, UTF-8 and UTF-16.
Simple search.
Little emoji reference.
A few words on every script. Unicodia is just fun to read.
Chinese/Japanese/Korean are collapsed initially. Otherwise point somewhere, and 75% you hit an ideograph.
Free/libre (except license for one font, see About).

Extract the 7z package, open Unicodia.xml and set <program portable="1">, so that the config.xml is saved in application folder instead of %Appdata%\Unicodia

Tested version 2.3.8: portable and stealth.

It actually looks very good.
However, it's huge at 141 MB (104,1 MB are fonts).
Only x64 builds because there is no x86 Qt compiled.
I don't see anywhere the Alt Codes displayed, wish it had them.

They 're probably all there, not categorized as Alt Codes but under None script. If you copy a character from the link you gave and paste it to the program, i guess you 'll find them all

Yes, the symbols are all there. There is also an explanation of what Alt codes are all about.
However, I wish the actual Alt code would be displayed for the selected symbol. For example, the € symbol can be written using "Alt + 0128", but this actual keys sequence is not displayed anywhere.
Not a big deal actually, just a nice option to have.

Talked to the author and there are Alt codes displayed but only for non-ASCII symbols as all printable ASCII characters are accessible from keyboard.

New version up: 2.3.9.

@Llewelyn: would you please edit your first post to include the database entry link? Thank you!

How do we update an entry? I updated unicodia using the edit button but it didn't show up on the main page.

It was less than a week since the previous update. Updating an entry that quickly doesn't bring it to the main page, to prevent a program's updates from getting too distracting.
