Aurora Browser

Version tested 1.0.0.3024.
Extracted using UE.
Saves settings in its own folder.
Uses IE11 engine on my win7.
Simple, clean interface. Few settings, but well organized. Includes few extensions (ad-block plus also).
Very small download (~2mb), but after usage the folder becomes huge (~125mb), like any other browser nowadays.
I like it, but I can't fit it in my browser rotation. :)

Haven't tested it, but interesting how an IE-engine browser could have Adblock Plus support since ABP isn't even supported by IE.
is it stealth? ;)

Not true. Adblock Plus is available for Internet Explorer: https://adblockplus.org/en/internet-explorer

BTW, when Wladimir Palant announced the IE version, I enjoyed reading the technical details about how it was done: https://adblockplus.org/blog/working-to ... t-explorer :)

Consider me wrong! :)

ABP for IE still requires an .exe installation, which sucks. I'm guessing Aurora would also require that to work.

Aurora has ABP preinstalled, you just have to enable it:

Decided to give Aurora a try because I was curious about ABP.

Uncompressed filesize is 4.95MB. Memory usage on start up hovers around 28MB with a blank homepage (not bad!). Surfing to any other site increases memory as usual.

Extension support and mouse gestures are nice. Settings panel is clean.

"ABP" is pre-installed as everyone has stated in this thread. I'm using quotes around ABP because according to the ABP blog post that SYSTEM linked to, ABP for IE opens a new process - AdblockPlusEngine.exe - to do its blocking. This isn't available in Aurora, which leads me to believe that Aurora either uses a stripped-down version of ABP, a customized version of ABP, or some variant of adblocking that uses the "ABP" name.

Below is a list of things missing:
- No option to disable autocomplete search queries in the address bar.
- No option to add or modify existing search engine options.
- No option to configure new tab page.
- No ability to configure Adblock Plus subscription lists.
- Clearing cache doesn't remove favicons.

Overall, not a bad little browser.

It is good to see an IE front-end with some nice features. I've had jobs where I could only use IE so I'm glad there's some worthwhile tools out there.

Two issues:
  • No indication of how they're going to make money and continue this project (donations? search engine referrals?)
  • I used to do a lot of data analysis so I take serious issue with the installer size comparison. That's hugely misleading when the first and largest install is REQUIRED for your super small install.

Yeah, that was amusing. Part of me wonders why go through all that but *shrug*.
