In fact at SourceForge (http://sourceforge.net/projects/trqtw/f ... n-Qt/2.8x/) the latest version available for download is 2.84.6, but all versions after 2.84.4 (2.84.5, 2.84.6) are labelled unofficial.

There will be an official Transmission build for Windows:
Beta will be available with 2.90. You could already build from source (using trunk) right now.

@Midas
Merry Christmas to you too.
By the way I wonder whether Transmission-Qt will be abandoned once the official Windows build of Transmission arrives.

There are finally official Windows builds of Transmission, the latest Windows version is 2.92 (in fact Beta), it can be downloaded from this page. There are both x32 & x64 installers. There are many complaints about bugs and other issues- you may have a look at this forum thread. By the way Mac version of Transmission (2.90) has been infected by ransomware- more about it at TorrentFreak.

I downloaded that version and just got lucky that it wasn’t an infected version. The youtube video detailing the malware is very interesting. Given the popularity of this client, we should expect more free programs (on Mac and PC) to be targeted in this fashion.

It might be too early to say this given that the official client might not be portable, but it might become necessary to switch over the Transmission Qt entry http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=2725 to official Transmission at some point:

It seems that Transmission developers never learn- a previous accident from 2016.03.07:

BitTorrent Client Transmission Infected With First Mac Ransomware

They release new versions (in this case- for Windows) with the same version number. Windows builds are not announced in their download page and their download repository is currently unavailable. No hashes for the Windows builds have ever been published. For the time being the Windows builds (2.92 only), which look more unofficial than the unofficial Transmission-Qt, are available at GitHub. How can one trust such developers? At least I cannot.

I think that a download manager which first calculates files hashes and then checks them at VirusTotal before downloading will be a very useful solution.

Re: Transmission-Qt gone

Transmission-Qt is gone- it seems that the developer- René Berber, has deleted Transmission-Qt page at SourceForge. Transmission-Qt was one of the most popular downloads at SourceForge- see last saved Internet Archive page- 17,469 downloads per week.

I have not tested the official Transmission version for Windows but I have read that it is very buggy.

Good to know, thanks. Softpedia has the installer version but not the Portable one: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/F ... sion.shtml

The face-palm image in that article neatly summed up my feelings on the topic. Good lord.

@webfork
Since the portable version of Transmission-Qt was packed by PortableApps previous versions can be found at SourceForge page. Transmission-Qt seems to be less buggy than the official Transmission Windows release.The development of Transmission is very slow and it is a pity that the developer of Transmission-Qt does not want to contribute to Windows build of Transmission, it seems that the whole project, not just the Windows release, is plagued by lack of programming power.

@smaragdus: since you appear to be knowledgeable about this, could you clarify which is the last PAF version/package based on the unofficial Transmission-Qt?
