OverDisk - disk storage analysis

Submit portable freeware that you find here. It helps if you include information like description, extraction instruction, Unicode support, whether it writes to the registry, and so on.

OverDisk - disk storage analysis

#1 Post by Midas »

Elias Fotinis' original site is now defunct (http://users.forthnet.gr/pat/efotinis/p ... rdisk.html; another minor casualty of the current Greek crisis?), but I'm surprised that this gem of his hasn't been checked into the database before...

It's marked as Beta software but in my experience (I have been using it for several years) it's remarkably stable and mature -- although some users reported issues in x64 Windows. To the best of my knowledge, it can be 'UniExtracted' and run portable and the filesystem pie-chart displayed is capably interactive. Here's the info I could gather in a moment...

Hmmm, maybe because it's not portable?

Midas,

Out of curiosity how did you test this application?

I think I may have stated here that I'm not a stealth purist; if an application lives up to its promises and does not provoke unnecessary file system turmoil, then I'm glad to put it to use...

So sorry, I didn't test OverDisk portability apart from having its executable in my thumbdrive and verifying that it run well on different systems without installation. When I said I was surprised that it hadn't been checked into TPFC database, I really meant the whole site, especially here at the forum, where I usually find entries that have been submitted (and discarded) in the past. That's one reason why I make my submissions here; I'm no testing whizkid, but I know they'll be at least looked on by other members...

That said, it seems Overdisk stores it's (few) settings in the Windows registry -- it's still rather useful at it's default settings. Feel free to move this to non-portable freeware...

I was simply curious of what your testing regime was, as I wasn't aware of what your philosophy was, but cheers for clarifying.

Thanks for posting, but due to the nature of the application writing settings to the registry this should be moved to the non-portable section.

Anyway, I will make a yaP launcher for OverDisk too. The next release of yaP will come with a bunch of new examples like this (currently about 30 items!).

Edit:
Here it is (uploaded with the latest DropIt test version :)):

Thank you very much for that, tproli.

After experimenting with yaP, I liked it a lot (more than when I tried to figure the Portable Apps launcher, which I was unable to do in any cost efficient manner), so I pledge to try and learn how to do it myself... :D

OverDisk wouldn't work for me on Windows 8. It said it was missing a file. I get the same error if I try to run Yap launcher on Windows 8. :(
