Could be a useful forensic tool or great for quickly getting thumbnail images for your files. Would like to see this work with ALL the thumbs on a computer rather than a given .db file. Wonder if there's any chance the dev will combine it with the other viewer.

I dunno, maybe they work better as separate programs.

Thumbnail Database Viewer enables you to view thumbnail cache which is used by Windows to speed up the display of thumbnails in folders (thumbs.db, ehthumbs.db, thumbcache_*.db files).
The cache stores all thumbnails created in a folder even if the original image has been deleted.
Thumbnail Database Viewer can be used in the forensic analysis of thumbs.db (ehthumbs.db, thumbcache_*.db) files providing details of when images were saved and their names and storage locations.

Not stealth, writes to the registry

Stealth status seems relevant.

Eric Kutcher's tiny Thumbs_Viewer 1.0.1.9 latest release (as of 23-AUG-2014)
http://code.google.com/p/thumbs-viewer/

Always a pleasure to come upon such a nicely crafted, self-contained specialized tool, usable both via GUI and CLI.
This compact (78k *.exe) forensic analyzer holds its own with aplomb compared to heavier competitors, such as:

- Thumbnail Data Base Viewer (560k *.exe + 290k *.DLL)
- Windows File Analyzer (2M *.exe)

Thumbs_Viewer Changelog (since 2013)
  • Improved directory scanning for long file paths
    Minor GUI adjustment
    Various mappings optimizations
Added ability to copy text of selected entries
    Improved code security
Program can now export list to a CSV file
Fixed DrawText formatting problem with @
Program can now open and save files from the command line

A new version is out (1.0.2.3) although I'm not sure what "drawing optimization" means. I'm guessing that now it's faster.
