Interesting ... we've got a couple EXIF viewers and editors here on the site but I never thought about PDF metadata. This could come in handy.

Supports drag and drop and, oddly, couldn't seem to find PDF files if I did a file - open. I was able to add a whole folder recursively, which was very useful. The program REALLY makes me want to find a metadata remover for PDFs similar to Stripper for PNG / JPGs.

Old thread update: v. 1.0.9 Build 1 is out.

This probably won't get added just because it's use is very specific, but I work with PDFs a lot so I did a bit more work with it. Few notes on this in case it ever gets added as an entry:

PDF metadata includes author, title, keywords, pages, creation date, encryption, size, PDF version, and more. Everything can be exported to a spreadsheet (CSV) viewable by most every editor out there. All inside a smooth interface.

License: Freeware. The included pdfinfo.exe is a component of XPDF which has both GPL v2 and v3 licenses. http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/

Settings location (in my testing there was like 1 line): config.ini

Stealth: unknown, didn't test.

Also, Skwire's screenscast on the program is great: http://skwire.dcmembers.com/apps/pdfinf ... gui_01.swf

PDFinfoGUI v1.1.0 released as of 16-SEP-2015.

Most recent update to this gem of a PDF analyzer niche tool, from the Skwire stable.

Specialised as it may be, wouldn't feel inappropriate as a formal entry in the DB
(in the same vein as SigcheckGUI, another current Skwire's entry)

Changelog : (quite a few notable improvements since DEC-2011 v1.02)

(The underlying Xpdf labs' PDFinfo.exe v3.04 engine included in the current distro was released on 28-MAY-2014)

@webfork

This (rather aged, circa 2008) freeware utility might prove handy to "sanitize" PDF files metadata:

BeCyPDFMetaEdit v2.37.0

Image

From the developer's website intro :
<<This program loads PDF documents (conforming to specification 1.6) and allows editing of several settings like the metadata about author, title, subject and keywords of the document. Furthermore, one can customize the viewer preferences, the bookmarks, the page labels, the page transitions for slide shows and the encryption/permissions of a document.>>
Too bad it won't touch password-protected PDF's...;-)

I believe ExifTool can also remove metadata from PDF

That's correct. FileOptimizer (http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=2377) does zap metadata, but leaves some GhostScript metadata behind in it's place. I tested with ExifToolGUI (http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1450) and it worked beautifully. It will zap the data on all the items in a given folder (though not subfolders).
