minecraft Portable Launcher

#1 Post by AyrA »

A Minecraft Launcher, not requiring any Components (not even a GUI)
Download: https://ayra.ch/apps/bin/MineLaunch.zip

Extracted it is only a few Kilobytes.
Readme wrote: Welcome to my Portable Release of Minecraft
Please note: This is only a Launcher, Download the Minecraft Executable,
place it in this Folder and make sure it is named "minecraft.exe"
Download the Client from http://minecraft.net

File List:
=======================================
launcher.exe --- launches Minecraft in a portable Version
makePortable.exe --- Copies an existing Local Profile to the Portable Storage
ToLocal.exe --- Copies a Portable profile back to the Lacal Storage
CHOICE.COM --- Yes-no-Cancel Thing, DO NOT DELETE
Readme.txt --- problem?
=======================================

launcher.exe is really only a launcher,
you can have a portable and a normal version running at the same Time without
Errors. You can also run any Number of portable Clients at the same Time,
just create multiple copies of this Directory

the "makePortable" is not required to launch Minecraft portable, it just allows
you to copy your local profile to the Portable one, allowing you to carry all
your already built Worlds with you.

the "ToLocal" it the opposite from the makePortable, it allows you to copy a
portable Profile back to the local Storage.
As you see, you need to download Minecraft and have to Pay for the Game,
but the launcher makes it fully portable.

MAZZTer (who also did the Google Chrome Portable launcher) created one a while back over at PortableApps.com as well:
http://portableapps.com/node/25222

It includes launchers for client and server and will download it for you and set it up for portable use.

Why was this tread moved to the Payware discussion?
The Launcher itself does not contain any payware

Because minecraft is payware and we're discussing it. It doesn't matter if the launcher is free, the app is commercial.

Dear Ayra,

I am not sure if you are aware of the dark intent of this file. Upon scanning with virustotal, I have found many dangerous files hidden within it.

Trojan/Win32.Agent
Win32/Trojan.999
Packed.Win32.Zcrypt.3!O

***************
These files can install very dark programs and redirect your webtraffic... I dont want you infected nor anyone else. Please clean this file and consider uploading another copy... Thank you.

Love,
Your friendly puppy,

Again, false positives: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/705b ... /analysis/

Any reason you believe bad AV programs over good ones (like Kaspersky, Bitdefender, Nod32 etc.)?
Do you know what heuristic detection means?
Why do you give security advices?

I wasn't going to say anything anymore, but then I thought someone might read this and take your claims for granted.
