ThinApp 4.0
Press release on ThinApp 4.0 from VMWare. A little pricey for most of us, interesting anyway:

Ok, that's illegal, but everybody I know use this way in order to portabilize they own applications; here is the link (including the Keygen, only run the keygen and Setup Capture.exe after the download) :

Re: ThinApp Download
Radarman, can't you send me the download link by private message?radarman36 wrote:Ok, that's illegal, but everybody I know use this way in order to portabilize they own applications; here is the link (including the Keygen, only run the keygen and Setup Capture.exe after the download) :

I actually bought a license for the program, it doesn't work and VMWare is so kind to tell me I can ************** and they don't even want to give a refund as well; I therefore think I have the right to use it.
For moderator: I assume asking for a link in a private message is okay?
It is this moderator's opinion that you should have asked for the link in a private message rather than in the public forum thread.
While I know that the appz/warez community exists, I feel that we do not want to participate in it here. I don't want to enter a debate over the matter. I know that there are situations where one might rationalize the "need" to use them.
But, I've found that there is such a wealth of Freeware application that I don't need to use appz/warez. I'd rather see folks support the Freeware authors than to spend their time "sticking it" to the commercial software outfits.
So, to anyone that may be using appz/warez, let your conscience be your guide. I agree with Andrew. Please do not conduct that business here.

Re: ThinApp 4.0
A tutorial on how to virtualize applications using ThinApp would be extremely useful. More useful still if said tutorial included installing application into VMware Workstation 6.5.x or 7.x then ThinStall capturing.

Preparing a Virtual Machine (by Crownixx/Redllar)
How to make a ThinApp Package (official VMware version)
Official copies of VMware Thinapp also come with a manual that gives alot of tips and tricks for special apps such as DotNet apps and such.

Interesting read, Napiophelios!
Didn't know that ThinApp allows restarting your computer when capturing an app!

Re: ThinApp 4.0
Yeah its one of the few things I like about ThinApp as compared to JPE or Xenecode.
ThinApp also seems to be better at "sandboxing" than the others.
You can really get creative with multiple installs and "virtual entry points" in a single ThinApp build.
I have experimented with multiple applications that have the "sandbox" named the same allowing the portable apps to be used
individually or in tandem;sharing the same virtual registry/file system.
(thanx 2 Glamster for that simple little stroke of geneusss)
But you already know where to go for such tips\experiments Freakazoid....I've seen you around
and I have a couple of your portables too.
JauntePE is just so much easier from the user's perspective though;
JPE portables usually seem to load faster and you can modify them as needed (and its free for personal use!! ).
so it will always be my first attempt when trying to make a portable launcher.
The NSIS/PortableApps.com method is also nice in the same regards but much harder to make properly.
Xenecode is just weird and slow and is always a last ditch effort
(which usually ends up working when nothing else does )

One of the things I like about JPE is you can change the contents of the sandbox.
eg. new Firefox / Opera release, just overwrite the files!
I haven't really had time to devote myself to learn JPE, but I want to!
With ThinApp, you basically can't do that without re-installing the new version over.

Man that's what is so great about JPE tho, anyone can do it right out of the gate.
With just a few experiments you will have the basics down pat
and that's really all you need thanx to Redllar's code.
And when you hit a snag just use the Setup Capture app by Crownixx.
Of course I dont like to use JPE for heavy apps but I know its capable.
Glamster has successfully created a launcher for a couple of different versions of
Adobe Photoshop.
I think JPE is best fit for small freeware that just has a few irregularities
or "hybrid" portables that make a couple of system leaks.

Re: ThinApp 4.0
Out of curiosity what is JauntePE coded in? Surely if a donation was made to the developer to have the SourceCode but a legal agreement not to use for profit, people here could then collaborate on the JauntePE project. For me it seems unfinished which is a shame and the additional apps (AutoIT) you (the team) have written have vastly improved the usability.
Wrong forum I know but I didn't want to say this in the official forum, not very tactful!!

Re: ThinApp 4.0
Well I just share launchers for apps that I wanted as portables for myself;
Crownixx is the one designing the awesome companion tools with AutoIT and maintaining the JPE UnOfficial website.
He credits me with helping out but all I do is edit the pages for grammar,he does all the work.
I am just a JauntePE cheerleader
I have no idea what Redllar used to code his programs in but I too wish for JauntePE's continued development.
When using it you do get a feel for alot of stuff Redllar intended to implement but never got the chance to.
In the forums he expressed a wish to hand the development reins over to some one else
but never found the right person I guess.
