TextPad

Not sure if this is payware or freeware... it's kinda the same as Winzip and WinRAR in that it stays functional even after the trial date but gives you a nag screen every once in a while.

would love for this app to be portable!
it's my favourite of all the text editors!

Re: Textpad -- portable?

#2 Post by Midas »

Very old topic update: I just came across some info about TextPad portability, so I'll leave it here for the benefit of the community...

The installer package available for download doesn't lend itself for easy (Uni)extraction, nor does it offer to create a portable "installation".

Nonetheless, once installed, there's is a menu option just for that, dependent on the user having having a license key.

After that option executes, a portable setup will be created, with sub-folders 'config' and 'license' in TextPad program folder populated with editor settings and the license key, respectively.

A batch file is then used for launching the portable TextPad:
  • Code: Select all

    @START "" .\TextPad.exe -f config -k license
Please note that I have not verified portable TextPad stealth status...
