TablePro CSV database

Hi!
I´ve found this program which COULD be portable:

TablePro 3.26 (site: http://zgspro.com/)

Topic: Database (CSV file based)

Problems:
1) The author(s) declare that it is "portable", even if not explicitly.
2) This application should be freeware for personal use (mentioned in Xtort.net), but I have not found a clare statement about that.

from the author´s site
TablePro is a simple and convenient database;(...) you can (...) perform fast, powerful searches, customize the interface with unlimited records, and export data in various useful formats. (...) A single instance of the TablePro program can then instantly call up any desired database.
TablePro (...) does not change the Windows Register or anything else outside its own directory (...). It has a small footprint and makes few demands on computer resources.

from the site forum:
Formulas. The program supports formula calculations. Virtual columns show values which are calculated by formulas based on other columns values. For example: If there are "Price" and "Count" columns in a table, it is possible to add "Total" column, which will just show the price multiplied on count.

Sorry: I forgot something which can be useful: this program can protect its files with password.

I believe this is payware?

From the website:
Register TablePro now!
The full price of the program is USD $39.99!
Order TablePro including free lifetime upgrades!
One activation key can be used on several computers for one user!

You are right, Andrew!!!

I guess that it´s better to move this post to the payware discussion section!

The site is very ambigous about the license and even the package doesn´t help to understand. Everyone can download it, but they don´t ask to register or to pay before. Ther is no "unlimited trial" proposal.

Comparing TablePro to similar txt csv database-apps

From the point of view of performance TablePro is easy to understand.

Compared to CSVEd http://home.hccnet.nl/s.j.francke/t2t/text2table.htm
TablePro has the advantage of the table encryption, that CSVEd lacks, and its search machine that is more efficient.

On the contrary CSVEd has more possibilities to edit entire columns and to make changes into the database file. CSVEd can run from a CDRom or from a USB pendrive and manage files in other drives, that TablePro need to be in its same folder (TablePro could not run from CDRom, because needs to write in its drive).

TablePro is thus portable and better for people that does not care too much on the database file itself. CSVEd is better for those having interest in a total managing of the database files.

My recommendation is to use both together to have your txt csv databases at your full control.

By the way, does anyone know some other txt csv database apps?

Hi, This comparison is interesting. Even if I use CSVED in order to convert/adapt text and csv files, I agree that it is possible to use CSVED to manage csv bases. You can also easily export them to html or excel directly inside the program.
The advantage of Table Pro, recently updated, is to be built to work on datasheets...and it does its job good. It´a a pity that it is payware!

Concerning your question, at the moment I don´t have anything in mind... but I will make an effort :)

Well,
I found this: HabFIles

http://www.hotkey.net.au/~hambar/habit/ ... bfiles.zip

it is portable (unzip the inside file _files.zip to your folder) and it is not as good as the others, but maybe it´s quite easy to use and with a certain number of options (I liked the case converter).
Previously known as HAButil
Windows 95, 98, XP
Text-file conversion utility for use with data files formatted as text.
Reformats text files to match the input format required by particular applications
space: 460 Kb ca

then this one: ListSquared
http://www.bitride.com/freeware/listsquared/info.php

It´s not so nice and quite limited. Anyway it´s tiny: 90 Kb
List² (ListSquared) is a small program for creating lists or tables.

Features include:
- the ability to rename, insert, and delete columns
- insert and delete rows
- find and replace
- clipboard cut, copy, paste to and from cells
- export to html
- import or export tab-delimited text
- printing with print preview
Portabase

http://portabase.sourceforge.net/

I don´t like it very much, but I had no time to test it better.
TO make it (maybe portable), download the installer and uniextract. Then in the {app} folder you have to add the dll files which are in the {sys} folder

Thanks AlephX. Very good job.

After testing the alternatives, I still preffer a combination of CSVEd and TablePro.

Amongh all others, the small listsquared

is nice, very small and simple...
