Captura is a really basic, easy to use screen capture program. The keystrokes could be a little more pronounced, the keystrokes could stick around a little longer, and the default quality a little better, but for a free tool that's very easy to get running, this is pretty fantastic.
Maybe the biggest feature was the ability to record both the speakers and microphone at the same time. This is incredibly important when recording a meeting where the recording feature isn't enabled. I've had remarkable difficulty finding something that would do this.

Status: Not portable. I tried using Uniextact but that didn't work. The setup file didn't even ask where I wanted the program, it just dumped everything into AppData\Captura. Worse, the program won't start working without FFMPEG, which it downloads to your documents folder. Sigh.
Captura - open source screen recording
Re: Captura - open source screen recording
Version 8 (beta) came out back in November with a portable version. Really just a "no-install" version, writing to AppData\Captura.

EDIT: I found portable settings instructions, but ran out of time to test them. Not sure they'll work with the FFMPEG download. https://github.com/MathewSachin/Captura/issues/100

If anyone has a Microsoft account, please report this links, which is from a pretender dev who was (until a few days ago) charging money for a free program that he didn't develop:

Re: Captura - open source screen recording
Update on portability: some progress was made back in December, but its unclear if it's actually portable: https://github.com/MathewSachin/Captura/issues/438 ... I'll retest this program once a feature I've been waiting for comes out.
