QuickLook - very quick preview of different type files.

#1 Post by MakoSoft »

QuickLook performs very fast and easy preview of different type files, by pressing
key [Spacebar] after selecting a file - without opening its associated application.

Selecting a file is possible on the Desktop or in a File Explorer window
or in an Open-Save File application dialog. After viewing file, press
[Spacebar] again then preview window is closed and select another file.

This is useful app, bringing regarded macOS “Quick Look” feature to Windows.

QuickLook now supports the preview of following main file types:
- Images: .png , .jpg , .bmp , .gif , .psd and RAW formats
- Compressed archives: .zip , .rar , .tar.gz , .7z etc.
- Pdf
- All kinds of text files (determined by file content)
- Video files .mp4 , .mkv , .m2ts etc.
- HTML files .htm , .html
- MarkDown file .md

Has this been tested as portable by anyone? And if so, any idea if it's stealth?

GIF to get a sense for those who haven't used the Mac-native feature (resized 50% to save some bandwidth):

Based on the program description, it sounds as if it's not going to be portable. Programs that integrate with the OS like that usually require some registry edits.

Tried launching it in Sandboxie but I run an older version that it doesn't want to launch with (newer versions of Sandboxie don't work with my system for whatever reason). RegShot would be of use here but I prefer some containment when testing first :)

I believe Autohotkey can detect files that are selected (though I could be wrong), and that has a portable version, so it may be that the program runs in the background detecting highlighted files and when the user presses the spacebar.

Update here: now at v.3.6.5 but definitely not portable. As discussed here, the author isn't keen on modifying settings: https://github.com/QL-Win/QuickLook/issues/394

There's a similar program called Seer but it hasn't been updated in a few years: https://www.howtogeek.com/249557/how-to ... o-windows/
