BeepComp (chip tune composer)

#1 Post by Midas »

BeepComp (http://hiromorozumi.com/beepcomp) is a simple OSS program for some text based retro style music fun...

BeepComp comes in a MSI file that can be easily extracted with LessMSI. Unfortunately, BeepComp isn't really portable -- settings are saved to '%PERSONAL%\BeepComp\beepcomp.config' (that's the "My Documents" folder, even if you edit that file and copy it back to the program folder) and other text files are kept at '%APPDATA%\Roaming\BeepComp'.
 • http://sourceforge.net/projects/beepcomp/ author wrote:[With BeepComp you can] Compose chiptunes with text files! And make MP3 and WAV files of your songs to share with the world. The audio synthesizer engine comes with 10 channels (9 music + 1 drum). The retro "beep" sounds reminiscent of old video game consoles and vintage PCs will take you back to the 8-bit era.

Hiro Sandwich, BeepComp's author, made a cool video demonstrating how to work with it:
BeepComp latest release (currently v0.1.9) can be downloaded from https://sourceforge.net/projects/beepco ... s/windows/.

Hiro has kindly made available a portable package that you can test out: BeepComp Portable (direct link). See discussion topic on BeepComp's forum.

Update: the first portable version wouldn't run in Sandboxie for testing. Hiro has promptly provided a fixed version (direct link).

Edit: Softpedia mirror.

Hi!

Thank you for helping me develop the portable version of BeepComp. I will keep testing this in my own time, but in the mean time if anyone tries this version and experiences any issues with it, I would appreciate letting me know at beepcomp-at-hiromorozumi-dot-com :D
