Labrys (Start menu/run replacement)

#1 Post by Midas »

Labrys is expectably non-portable but, still, its innovative approach as a 32 and 64-bit Windows menu replacement cum textual launcher seems interesting. Another cool feature is the ability of dragging menu items sideways to launch them with elevated privileges.

Labrys Inno installer package can be easily (Uni)extracted and its FAQ declares it doesn't change any system files. It depends on MS VC 2013 runtimes (included) and it saves settings to '%APPDATA%\Labrys' folder -- mainly configuration ('Configuration.dcn') and command history ('History.dcn') files.

Instead Labrys uses fresh approaches to provide rapid access to applications and command-line utilities with keyboard, mouse and touch.

Looks solid. Whenever I pull away from Win7, I plan to test this.

Other notes:

* License: freeware for non-commercial use

* Requires
  • * Visual C++ Redistributable Package for Visual Studio 2013 (which it installs where necessary)
    * Site claims it doesn’t need admin. I didn’t test this element.
