MiniTool Partition Wizard

#1 Post by Midas »

Due to a surprising lack of native partition tools here at TPFC, I had to resort to this non-portable program...
http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html wrote:MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition is a free partition manager [...] supports 32/64 bit Windows Operating System including Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8. Home users can perform complicated partition operations by using this powerful yet free partition manager to manage their hard disk. Functions include: Resizing partitions, Copying partitions, Create partition, Delete partition, Format partition, Convert partition, Explore partition, Hide partition, Change drive letter, Set active partition, Partition Recovery.

Gizmo's Freeware review rates it with 9/10 stars (90%):
http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/best-free-partition-manager.htm wrote:Runs as a stand-alone program on a user's computer. Fast performance, easy to use graphic interface, supports RAID drives, supports disks over 2 TB, bootable recovery CD available for download, can repairs Master Boot Records (both MBR and GPT formats). Supports Linux ext2 and ext3 files systems. Data Protection mode allows for more non-reboot required editing scenarios, and the recovery media offers much of the functionality of the full, online program.
Please note that although the free Home version doesn't allow for merging partitions, the bootable ISO does. The program's page is http://www.partitionwizard.com/, but the download link points to CNet which forces its darned downloader on everyone; fortunately it's also present at Softpedia:

www.softpedia.com /get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/Partition-Wizard-Home-Edition.shtml.

Partition Wizard is a Qt app; it can easily be UniExtracted and all its files will be inside the {app} folder; on execution, the only registry entry I found was this one:

Code: Select all

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MiniTool Solution Ltd.]

Also on execution, Partition Wizard seems to drop three files at %WINDIR%\sytem32\ (which would be drivers, most likely):

Code: Select all

"pwdrvio.sys"
"pwdspio.sys"
"pwNative.exe"

Try this:

As Partition Manager alternative, Aomei Partition Assistant Home Edition is the latest and completely free partition manager software. It carries out magic hard disk and partitions management, advanced system optimization, and easy copy wizard to keep your computer running smoothly and faster.

This freeware is compatible with both 32 bit & 64 bit versions of Windows operating systems, including Windows 8, Windows 7 (SP1 supported), Vista, XP, and Windows 2000 Professional. It has the ability to resize and move partition, extend system drive, merge partitions, split partition, allocate free space, copy partition, copy disk on MBR and GPT disk, with all data protected.

Highlight! Aomei Partition Assistant Home Edition is the globally unique free partition manager which allows commercial use, because you're worth it!

I don't know or even care if it is portable or not because it works well for me & is easy to use.
Perhaps someone might want to check it for portability & if not, to create a launcher for it.

Thanks for your suggestion. Will try it ASAP. 8)

EDIT: Tried AOMEI, which seems to be able to run portable (didn't check for stealth, but I assume it's not) to edit partitions other than the system one -- in which case it complains of lack of installed drivers. I am still on the fence about which of these two is preferable. Meanwhile, MiniTool Partition Assistant has been updated to version 7.5. Download @ URL in first post...

MiniTool ShadowMaker Free

#7 Post by Midas »

There's yet another free MiniTool utility for system backup with portability features (untested!): MiniTool ShadowMaker Free.
http://www.minitool.com/backup/bootable.html wrote:MiniTool ShadowMaker Bootable Edition is created by Bootable Media Builder which can be found in MiniTool ShadowMaker Tools. With Bootable Media Builder, users can create bootable CD/DVD, bootable USB flash drive, or build an iso image of a bootable disc. MiniTool ShadowMaker Bootable Edition is most frequently used to restore operating system to an earlier copy. This action can help to fix poor performance or software errors and does not harm your personal data.
