CAFE / Coffee custom configs

#1 Post by webfork »

Having worked with CAFE a lot recently for the Kitchen Sink project, I've developed a short list of CAFE config files for other programs on portablefreeware.com:

http://sites.google.com/site/cafeconfig/

If anyone has additions, please message me or post them on this thread and (with your permission) I'll stick them on the site. Thanks!

Worth a look if your a serious C.A.F.E or CAFEMod http://portableapps.com/node/13453 user. I personally use it for the extensions and substitute the appropriate program.

CAFEMod is no longer developed since May 2008. I have contacted both authors of it and of the original CAFE, then I worked on the CAFEMod code, fixed some bugs, cleaned it, added some localizations and released Coffee:

You can try and use it if you want, I'd like to know your opinions (it fix a few problems that afflict CAFEMod). If someone is interested to help me, we can also consider to improve and "stabilize" it.

I realised C.A.F.E wasn't being developed but had no idea that CAFEMod was the same. I have literally just download your Coffee (clever name) and integrated the ini file I have. So you can confirm that no registry keys are added to my system, in that your AHK scripts, which I haven't looked at yet add to my registry? It looks very very promising! I know you have a good reputation of Autoit/AHK scripting, I love your program ArcThemAll! which if I am honest am using to give a better idea of how to use Autoit (I am NOT going to steal your code if that's what you think  )
The icon would be the change you could look at making?!

I'm happy to read you like my software :D ..Any advice to improve ArcThemAll! or my other apps is welcome! At the moment these are my realizations:
Coffee http://www.lupopensuite.com/db/coffee.htm
ArcThemAll! http://www.lupopensuite.com/db/arcthemall.htm
Portable Puzzles http://www.lupopensuite.com/db/portablepuzzles.htm
JkDefrag Plus http://www.lupopensuite.com/db/jkdefragplus.htm
(some are improvements of existent codes or use third part components, not completely written by me... but of ArcThemAll! I wrote any line ^^)

About Coffee, it doesn't use registry for file associations and so it is very powerful and really portable (some similar apps use registry temporarily, but it is a problem if they crash).

Sorry I don't understand, what about the icon? Would you like to recommend me a better alternative?

No I have no icon to recommend, perhaps I could create a new icon but I am not a graphics designer. Plus I have become attached to the little bean within the last 3 hours! :P

I think some of my apps could be added in the PFC database... Can someone intercede for them? :P

coffee

Agreed -- coffee is (so far in my testing) an excellent program. I'm so glad someone's working on it. I'm fairly sure all of the posts I've put up on the site will function with Coffee as it has a similar config system to CAFE.

Well, the code is GPL'd so ... its sort of free to all.

I kinda like that icon. Its distinctive without being overwhelming. Its a lot better than the CAFE program.

One thing I'd like to see in this is a better run dialog. It shouldn't require me to click to get the program to run. And it should keep the setting to close the run dialog, if that's selected, until I change it somewhere. I'd also like to see the hotkeys user configurable, so that they don't conflict with other programs I have.

Lupo73

I do not know if it is being developed or just made portable but ...

Please go see EXpresso if you have not yet http://portableapps.com/node/13787

Expresso is a CAFE MOD in Portable Apps Format.

You might try to interest them in some collaboration as they may have something, or need something.

Your project and theirs are certainly both seemingly active at this time.

The link you provided is for a translation section of expresso. I searched the site and cant find any updates other than the last release under CAFEMod 5B1, the project looks dead as the developer hasnt posted since April 2009. I have been using Coffee since June and have had no problems.

The reason I posted it was for the use of Lupo73.

I would like to ensure he has heard of it.

I did not know it was/is dead.

If the project is dead, possibly it could be taken over by Lupo73 if he so desires?

If it is based on the CafeMod then possibly it could be renamed and have Lupo73's Coffe added, to replace the hopefully similar CafeMod.

Further if he is inclined to work on it (Expresso), he might bring back the (interested) developers for some collaboration.

Obviously this was just an informational post.

If I gave the wrong link, just go to portableapps.com and use the search for expresso, pick the correct link ...
Thanks Guiness

Thanks for the advice donald. Coffee is based on the last CafeMod/eXpresso available on portableapps. I have decided to create it because the development is stopped, there was few bugs (that I have fixed in Coffee) and I didn't like its icon (so I have created the Coffee's one).
Essentially I made this release to reorganize the CafeMod version, also adding some more translations, but I don't know very well the language used to write it. So I'm not able to manage its development and improvement, but I have only released a minor improved version to have a more stable software to use.
Obviously the code is open and there is no problem if someone what to improve it or simply release it on portableapps.
