Windows Live Writer Portable by caschy

#1 Post by joby_toss »

Everyone knows what Windows Live Writer is - blogging software.

Caschy just posted a portable version on his blog.

That's why it's just a "Discussion" and not a "Submission" !

Dependencies (like the .NET framework or Java) should always be mentioned, I find. Saves time. I wouldn't even have checked the software out, if I had known in advance. ;-)

I appreciate the Post! I wish this site had an area in the forum just for post's about Java and .NET "portables". Yea so they aren't fully portable, unless you primarily use windows, we get that. If they had a specific area for discussion no one would get upset when they realize it "has a dependency". I would still challenge all the hardcore portable users to suggest dependency free alternatives, before they start bashing though. I prefer to use .NET and Java free apps if possible, but some have no alternatives.

I simply want to know about dependencies before I read up on a software, download two separate .exes, have to connect a third time to the Internet to download the real program (I didn't), read up on a specific, awkward installation procedure and finally find out that it won't install because it's dependent on the fucking .NET framework.

An alternative to Windows Live Writer is the excellent BlogDesk:
http://www.blogdesk.org/en/index.htm

Saves some files to the APPDATA and system folders. I think the APPDATA folder can be neglected by modifying file path in the .ini file.

A worthy JPE candidate!
is it stealth? ;)

Here are two free and portable alternatives to Windows Live Writer:

Zoundry Raven

and

Post2Blog:
Review
Home page
Portable instructions

I can't vouch for the quality or features of either, since I never bothered to actually use the blog I created

BlogDesk does not work with my blog account, Post2Blog keeps telling me that I've not entered a serial number, but Zoundry Raven is great! It offers everything I need (although it keeps creating an empty folder in AppData).
Thanks guys!

Which blogging platform do you use joby_toss?

The reason why I use BlogDesk is it's the only blogging program that supports custom fields.

If you don't know what that is, you don't need to use BlogDesk! ;)

Was actually looking at Zoundry Raven the other day... but didn't download it.

"Using" is a bit to much to say about my blog :) .
I created some time ago a blog on blogspot (or blogger) but I never used it. I remembered I have one when I saw caschy's post about LiveWriter.

I would've liked to try BlogDesk but I've read on their forums that it still does not support blogger, although its author promised support for this almost 3 years ago.
