Re: Is Opera 10 standard portable or not ?
I don't have the necessary b.a.l.l.s to test this pre-alpha version .

Re: Is Opera 10 standard portable or not ?
I've been meaning to give Opera 10.5 a try.
I might test it out with Napiophelios' JauntePE launcher.

- Improved support for SVG and the HTML 5 <canvas> element
- Further Vega information (http://my.opera.com/core/blog/2009/02/04/vega)
* Opera Widgets for Desktop
Although they run outside the browser, Opera Widgets have been treated as entities inside the browser in many respects. Widgets are currently managed from within Opera, and they run as long as Opera runs.
The new Opera Widgets for Desktop ends this dependency on the browser and moves Opera Widgets to the next level: that of first-class applications. Above all, the Opera Widgets for Desktop gives widgets the potential to replace some native applications on the computer.
Opera Widgets for Desktop provides a standalone framework, and supports the separation of widgets from the Opera browser user interface, lifespan, and resources.
* Opera Widgets for Desktop includes the following features:
- Widget management and lifespans are separated from the Opera desktop browser.
- Each widget runs in a separate process.
- Integration with the operating system includes support for creating desktop and menu-based application shortcuts.
- Widget control buttons organize important actions:
> Move
> Close
> Minimize
> Settings
- Support is provided for different widget modes such as "Application" and "Widget".
- A new widget installation/uninstallation process is supported:
> Uninstallation from "Add/Remove Programs" in the Windows Control Panel
- Notification pop-ups are supported.
- Password manager is supported.
- File I/O (Input/Output) access is supported.
- The upgrading of installed widgets from current to new runtime is supported.
- Improved support for Opera Dragonfly is provided.
> Remote debugging is possible; configurable via a widget's context menu.
* Non-modal notification messages
- Notification message windows no longer interrupt workflow
> JavaScript alerts, HTTP notifications, Password Manager, etc., now display as page overlays
> Switching of tabs or windows while these dialogs are displayed is now allowed
* Private browsing
- Creating, browsing, and then closing private tabs and private windows removes all records of Web sites visited through them.
> Using the new Opera "O" tab and menu, go to:
+ Tabs and Windows > New Private Tab
+ Tabs and Windows > New Private Window
> Using the traditional Opera Menu bar, go to:
+ File > New Private Tab
+ File > New Private Window
* Web Storage
- Support is established for:
- Session storage: offers a temporary storage of data
- Local storage: stores data for a longer period until you explicitly clear it
- See: Web Storage W3C Working Draft (http://www.w3.org/TR/webstorage/)
* Web SQL Database
- Offers the ability to create databases and enables:
> Storage of data in a more structured manner
> Querying data using SQL

Re: Is Opera 10 standard portable or not ?
Version 10.50 beta saves stuff all over the place (files) and that old reg key is there, too ...
Maybe we could tweak a little the profile paths ...

Re: Is Opera 10 standard portable or not ?
Whoops! I didn't even think about testing for Portability! I presumed it wouldn't be any different just that RegKey being created. Still from your post joby_toss it appears you taken the plunge and tried Opera Beta!
Re: Is Opera 10 standard portable or not ?
Beta, yes (but in a sandbox)!guinness wrote:Still from your post joby_toss it appears you taken the plunge and tried Opera Beta!
Pre-alpha sounded too scary for me .
Later edit: Stupid me, I forgot to switch "Multi User" to "0" in "operaprefs_default.ini". So yeah, Opera 10.50 is as portable as the previous version!

Re: Is Opera 10 standard portable or not ?
Still lean and mean at around 13 MB!
Incredible!
Have you guys tried quick search in Opera 10.5 yet?
The dimming functionality when searching is more like Safari's now!
Also, have you guys tested widgets in 10.5?
They're more like independent apps now... not sure how portable v10.5 is when using widgets.

I have never heard of doing such a thing,What is supposed to happen?guinness wrote:Note: It failed when I renamed Opera.exe to OperaUSB.exe did anyone else get this error? It worked before!
Re: Is Opera 10 standard portable or not ?
This is how Opera@USB does it! So I thought I would do it too, but for this version it doesn't load it just creates an error message.
Re: Is Opera 10 standard portable or not ?
So if you've been living under rock then you won't know anything about Opera releasing 10.50 RC 4 in less than 24hours, which shows Opera is pushing for a 10.50 Final release anytime soon!
For those who are a little unknown of how to make "Opera Portable," try a Beta release of Opera@USB. As you can see in this version the usual operausb.exe has been renamed to opera.exe, which goes to show, you can't rename the main executable as mentioned in my previous post!
TESTED: Portable (Not Stealth)
MyVersion: 1 Registry Key "HKCU\Software\Opera Software\Last CommandLine v2 C:\Opera\Opera.exe"
Opera@USB: 1 Registry Key "HKCU\Software\Opera Software\Last CommandLine v2 "C:\OperaUSB\Opera.exe"
So on the main site it says "- make no entries to the registry", but from my tests it does and others who have mentioned this. The only difference between my version and Opera@USB is firstly its in a .ZIP file and I don't have to install/copy and then edit the "operaprefs_default.ini" >> Multi User= >> From 1 to 0.
Secondly, a folder named "profile" is in the main application directory. In this folder are a few files to customise the look and feel of Opera.
"operaprefs.ini" >>

So my point is use Opera@USB but there isn't anything special required in creating your own "Opera Portable."[User Prefs]

Re: Is Opera 10 standard portable or not ?
Doesn't Opera@USB redirect cache files to the temp directory?
is it stealth?
Re: Is Opera 10 standard portable or not ?
- NODoesn't Opera@USB redirect cache files to the temp directory?
I did 4/5 separate tests to see if any files were stored outside of the "Application Directory >> profile" folder e.g. %TEMP%, %WINDIR%
For each test I took a before and after snapshot of the test system and browsed the same sites for each to build up the cache folder.
1. Opera@USB 10.50 B1 with the pre-configured settings saved all the cache files to "Application Directory >> profile >> cache" nothing outside of the Application folder.
2. MyVersion of Opera with the pre-configured settings saved all the cache files to "Application Directory >> profile >> cache" nothing outside of the Application folder.
3. Opera@USB 10.50 B1: I deleted "Application Directory >> profile" so it would be a new profile with no settings configured beforehand e.g. Memory Cache turned off etc. Again, all the cache files to "Application Directory >> profile >> cache" nothing outside of the Application folder.
4. MyVersion: I deleted "Application Directory >> profile" so it would be a new profile with no settings configured beforehand e.g. Memory Cache turned off etc. Again, all the cache files to "Application Directory >> profile >> cache" nothing outside of the Application folder.
5. I then did exactly the same with Opera@USB 10.10 and it replicated the same results.
Opera@USB simply is a ZIP version of Opera with the operaprefs_default.ini MultiUser entry edited.
Were you thinking of http://www.kejut.com/operaportable? Because that uses the %TEMP% and then moves all the files to a <PROFILE>.ophome file!
It might not be Stealth, but at least it doesn't require a wrapper to cleanup and even then some files are created outside of the Application folder e.g. Firefox.
Disclaimer: I am not disregarding Opera@USB, I merely trying to understand what the major differences to Opera@USB and coping the Opera folder with an INI file change. In conclusion Opera@USB is still excellent because you don't have to mess with installing and un-installing or editing an INI file. I have only looked into this because I was led to believe Opera@USB was a wrapper.
