Everyone, drop the freeware you use daily down below!

#1 Post by Albert90 »

I tried looking and couldn't actually find a thread like this where everyone posts their favorite freeware that they use daily (portable or otherwise), so I'll start one myself.

I'll start
- LosslessCut (lossless video trimming tool)
- Free Download Manager (portable download manager)
- Flameshot (cross-platform screenshot tool)
- BatchEncoder (audio file conversion tool)
- LeoMoon HotKeyz, most recently (assigns system-wide hotkeys for things like folder, programs, text snippets, etc)

I discovered most of these browsing this very forum, so there's probably a lot more super useful one's to uncover!

My list is pretty going to be pretty big:
  • Beeftext: Text expansion and snippets
  • QuickTextPaste: Text expansion and snippets (Yup, I use this and Beeftext together because each has some unique features I need)
  • Ditto: Clipboard manager
  • Breaktimer: Break reminders, as the name suggests
  • Everything: File search
  • Listary: Launcher and file utilities (started recently, after Keypirinha started glitching on my laptop)
  • SoundSwitch: Quickly switch between audio input and output devices
  • ShareX: Screenshots, screen recordings, image OCR, and a bunch of functions I'm pretty sure I don't know the app has
  • PowerToys: Mostly for FancyZones and the color picker
  • Caffeinated: One-click toggle to keep laptop awake when needed
  • QuickLook: Spacebar file previews ala MacOS
  • ClickMonitorDDC: Manage brightness, contrast, etc. for external monitors
  • SuMO: Keep apps up-to-date
  • SpaceSniffer: Check what's hogging all the hard disk space
There're probably more that I'm missing here. I'll edit the post as I find them.

Will update if anything else comes to mind.

My list:

- MemPad. Notes on just about everything; school classes, genealogy, freeware notes and manuals, passwords, thesis notes ... It's my "junk drawer" of information about anything and everything
- Reminder fron Horst. Set to pop up every morning. Not just birthdays and anniversaries, but my next tetanus shot or plate renewals into the future. As I am 'retired', I no longer have email-type appt calendars
- Famulus. I keep 5 icons on the desktop for my spouse's sake; otherwise it's in Famulus and
- Deskbug (one per university class - just easier to organize than Famulus for some things)
- PDF-XChange Editor (it rarely closes, amazingly)
- Portable Firefox (still has the best extensions, despite being a memory hog)
- Everything
- TED Notepad

Firefox and Thunderbird have become the only portable applications I use every day.

Digital transformation hit my job hard. So I am ever more forced to use mobile devices running Android or Windows S that rely on their own app stores, or I have to use web services.

From time to time, I use foobar2000, Tags2Folders, VLC, Sumatra PDF, PDF X-Change Editor, FoxitReader, Docfetcher, CCleaner, Autoruns, 7zip, LibreOffice, WinScan2PDF, ZBack, OpenTTD on my private machine. I have always wanted to take a closer look at things like RawTherapee but never really found the time.

Beat me to it. Still, everytime these come up I catch something I didn't pay attention to before.
