Keeping UniExtract up to date

#1 Post by garbanzo »

Can someone who is familiar with this app please make a list of what elements we should keep an eye on in order to make sure it's always up to date? It's been a while since 1.6 was released, but there are so many bits and bobs in the BIN folder, I wouldn't know where to start.

Thanks!

wow garbanzo, i agree completely. i've been told so many time to make sure my uniex plugin were uptodate with 0 input on how to contantly keep on top of it. maybe this thread could be updated with the latest version and links when plugins are updated. my guess is andrew always has the most updated when he checks apps

Well, I think this is a good place to start:

Code: Select all

http://www.legroom.net/software/uniextract#credits
The ones that I think matter for installers (and still have websites and have been updated more recently than 2006) are:

* Innounp - updated April 27, 2009 (This is probably the one you've been told to update most often.)
* 7-Zip
* Info-ZIP UnZip
* msi2xml
* UPX
* UnRAR - the CLI freeware (direct download) - rename it to "unrar.exe"
* TrID (the exe hasn't updated since 2006, but the definitions file was updated last week - though it probably doesn't matter unless there's a new filetype, which probably wouldn't be supported anyway)

EDIT * PEiD Thanks for providing a working link, I Am Baas.
EDIT: ***Warning: the latest PEiD seems incompatible with Universal Extractor - see my comment below.

Feel free to correct me on any of the above.

Hey, all...

Not sure if anyone took the time to download all of the updates for the BIN directory. If you did, would you be willing to compress the updated files into one zip file and post it?

I would do it, but I'm traveling (again) :(

Cheers,

Nick

I updated to the latest PEiD today and it broke Universal Extractor: it hung while determining the filetype, and then the PEiD process was still running after I shut down UniExtract. After reverting to the older PEiD, the problem was gone.

Have you updated yours, I am Baas?

ashghost, i updated PEiD and faced the same problem. rolling back to the older version solved it.

Yes, I did and it seems to work fine. I must add that Universal Extractor is one of a few programs that I do install on my machine. Maybe that's why updating went ok?

According to the author of Universal Extractor:
[The file "TrIDDefs.TRD"] is very modified. I'd recommend against replacing it with a newer version from the TrID website.
http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?sho ... 0&p=784128&

That could be one reason why updating it seems to break certain things.

You can update other programs within the bundle, but I think that one piece you should leave be.
