Smallest applications

Hi, first post.

So far I found these applications which are tiny but do the job.

Web Browser -> OffByOne
Messenger -> PixaMSN
E-Mail -> nPOP
IRC -> TinyIRC

The biggest app there is OffByOne with a little over 2MB.
Basically I want to put together a suite of tiny portable applications for use on slower computers and such. I've spent some time looking on the site but so far these are the best smallest ones I found. Any suggestions?

i've been collecting these for awhile for use on my everun. 600mhz AMD geode proc.

he codes cool little apps in assembly.. makes them super tiny but most are shareware.

Here is a fav tiny app

TinyPDF (http://TinyPDF.com) a 48k Print to PDF driver that works well, and opens the resulting PDF in the default viewer.Free with no watermarks.

It does not qualify as portable, but I keep in on my USB with rmprn.exe (http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Sys ... mPrn.shtml) a command line (therefore also not TPFC) to remove it when I am done if on another person's computer.

My other favs, Eve, Spread32, TedNPad, and MemPad, are already listed in Tiny USB Office (http://www.xtort.net/office-and-product ... py-office/)

IMO it's useless w/out own pdf rendering engine. What is it for if you have a pdf viewer installed on the host machine?

I use TinyPDF to create PDF files. It is the smallest one that I have found that is stable, does not generate watermarks, and which uninstalls nicely using the method I mentioned. The Viewer aspect (using the default viewer) is nice because if I need to print the output, I get a preview, and, due to the flakiness of some of the programs I have had to use at the office, this IS a nice feature.

As for What is it for, every time I do banking or bill-paying via internet, make a purchase or a registration, I can keep an electronic record, even including any serial numbers or passwords that I otherwise would have to write down. Also, at work, I open documents with very many programs, depending on who creates them with what--for my own records, or when it is time to Publish (i.e. make read-only) the documents, PDF conversion is very useful.

3 years ago I used a TinyPDF precursor with the GREAT PDFTKBuilder (http://portablefreeware.com/?id=1066) for all my wedding announcements, cards, etc. I am not saying PDF is for everyone, but hey, it works for me.

There are many of us weird and wonderful folk around, each with their won tastes. This is why I went through the weird learning curve to figure out EVE, the Incredible Shrinking Embedded Vector Editor (http://portablefreeware.com/?id=618), and use it for just about everything (including printing to PDF), but have never gotten past the look and feel of Gimp (http://portablefreeware.com/?id=644), despite it being vastly superior as an image editor, to all accounts.

I enjoy your posts by and large, m^(2).
(btw--is this moniker translated to m, tentatively squared? <grin>)

Very old topic update: TinyPDF is still available; latest release is 3.00.3200, dated 2015-09-10 (no changelog, download at http://tinypdf.com/downloads.html).

Sadly, TinyPDF isn't 64-bit compatible (see http://tinypdf.com/support.html#Does TinyPDF work on Windows 64-bit).

The same developer also supplies freeware PDF viewers: PDF Viewer for Windows 7 (v1.0 build 220: http://www.win7pdf.com/pdf-viewer.html), PDF Viewer for Windows 8 (v1.02 build 530: http://www.win8pdf.com/pdf-viewer.html), and PDF Viewer for Windows 10 (v1.02 build 568: http://www.win10pdf.com/pdf-viewer.html). They might be just different versions of the same program -- I haven't tested them, so I don't know...
