Need an envelope printer

I have found a couple of freeware non-portable envelope printers but I didn't like them. Seems simple enough to write a progie to do this. We have AbiWord and other document editors but no envelope printers. OpenOffice is too much for my needs, even though it might be possible to print an envelope from it.
