stirred up some discussion recently, perhaps another piece of related but little-known portable software might also be of interest to someone:
Mandiant-Highlighter v1.1.3 released 12-SEP-2011
Originally developed as a forensice tool to examine Text and Log files, this highlighter provides three distinct views of a plain text file under scrutiny:
- Text view: allows users to highlight interesting keywords and filter out lines with "known good" content;
keywords hits can each be highlighted with their own distinctive background color, selected from a palette of 48 built-in nuances. - Graphical view: shows all content and the full structure of the file, rendered as an image that is dynamically editable through the user interface
- Histogram view: displays patterns in the file over time; usage patterns become visually apparent and provide the examiner
with useful metadata that is not available in other text viewers/editors
