Cryptosearch - find password-protected files [nagware]

#1 Post by webfork »

This program was released back in 2006 and may not detect the most recent types of password protection. In my testing, it identified a lot of files that were not encrypted. Launches a website upon search completion (and clicking anything), which is super annoying. As such, although it probably qualifies as portable (a recent file list in registry), I'm not putting this in the Submissions forum. Hopefully this post will save someone else time messing with this program.

---

Synopsis:
Occasionally, you have secure data on your computer that you don't need or want anymore. Think financial records from 10 years ago. This program can help track down files that have some kind of password protection on them so you can make a call about them.

For those files you do want, you should be sure what and if those files have actual secure passwords on them or are simple ZIP encryption with your dog's name.

So this program is still seeing updates, which is good as there have been some updates to standard crypto in the years since this was posted. The program is now at v.1.0

Useful alongside ExcelPass, which creates a lot of the encryption that this finds.
