Mojibake. The search term contains Cyrillic characters, and the term is apparently being interpreted as ISO 8859-15 instead of UTF-8.

I think this is a sign from god that it's about time we move to UTF8 for the main site (it's still on iso-8859-1 in case you are wondering). I know, I know, I hang my head in shame.

This is not going to be trivial. I will keep you guys posted if I make any ongoing progress.
