Watch 4 Folder - folder monitoring and automation

There didn't appear to be a thread for Watch 4 Folder so I'm generating one. Watch 4 Folder is an simple folder monitoring and automation utility. Although it's from adware developer LeeLuSoft, I'm not seeing a clear inclusion of adware:

One additional note here: the program (as Baas noted this in the other thread) writes settings to a temp folder, which makes it only sort of portable. Settings are essentially thrown away between computers (or sessions if you have something cleaning your temp folder).

As such, I'd describe this as one of those gray-area programs that are only semi-portable.

Watch 4 Folder under Windows 10

Hi there - my first post here.

Does anyone know anything about 'Watch 4 Folder' (yes, I know it's old!)' and, in particular, any experience of whether it works under Win10 (it claims to work up to Win8)? Setting up a 'watch list' all seems to work as expected, but it then does not seem to detect any of the events that have been specified in that list. It may, of course, be that I am doing something silly!

Any insights and/or advice about alternatives to this utility would be much appreciated. What I want is something that can (directly or indirectly) send an e-mail when a file in a specified folder changes. I have a command-line utility that will send an e-mail when called, and it looked as if Watch 4 Folder would be able to do that calling - but only if it detects an event that requires such action!

FolderChangesView?
Added option to execute a command when there is a new item or existing item is updated
Directory Monitor?
Execute an application or script when an event occurs

billion, many thanks - I'll have a look at those two. I did previously look at Directory Monitor and decided against it for some reason (which I can't recall), but I'll have another look, as well as a look at FolderChangesView.

Welcome to the site.

JoeJoeSoft has a program that might do what you're looking for: viewtopic.php?t=23086

A few other possibilities: http://www.technixupdate.com/7-free-too ... r-changes/

Thanks. I'll look at them. Following billion's suggestion, I've got it working with FolderChangesView, but there are a few aspects of that which are less than ideal (for me), so I'll look at these other possibilities.

Kind Regards, John

@JohnW2: have a look at Dropit (https://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1531), too. With some nudging of its massive customization options, you might be able to make it work to your ends.

Thanks. Yes, it seems to be much more sophisticated/versatile than any of the others I've looked at, so I'll investigate what it can do.

Although it works, the utility from JoeJoeSoft (NewFileGo), as mentioned by webfork, seems to be the other extreme, with very little customisability/configurability (if either of those are words!!) - in fact, the one screenshot in what was linked to appears to be literally 'all there is'.

Kind Regards, John
